Obituary published on Legacy.com by Turner & Son Funeral Home and Crematory on Jun. 20, 2025.
Nora Latimer, of Columbus, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on January 27, 2025 at Ohios Hospice at The Ohio State University in Columbus.
Nora was born the daughter of Harry W. Latimer and Ruth Marie (Hurd) Latimer on March 07, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan. She was affectionately known to family and friends as "Cookie". Nora was the oldest of four siblings, including two sisters, Dorothy Marie and Lois Beth, and her only brother, Hurd Scott. Nora grew up in a strong Christian family and lived her life for Christ. She accepted Christ as a young person and was a member of the Oakley Baptist Church. She had a high intellect and was an avid lifelong reader with very broad and deep interests in a number of subjects. For the siblings who came behind her, she was a challenging act to follow. Nora had quite the interest in music, and she enjoyed Christian hymns, anthems and gospel. She started playing the piano at a young age and continued with her lessons through junior and senior high school. She also sang in the church choir.
Nora graduated from Columbus West High School (Class of 1965) Summa Cum Laude and went on to attend The Ohio State University. She liked the visual arts and at one time was interested in making that her major. She was also interested in foreign languages, particularly French, and considered becoming a French interpreter. Having all the smarts and being good at many things sometimes posed a problem in deciding which path to choose. She eventually went on to work at the Ohio State University Medical Hospital in 1969 and made her 51-year career there until her retirement in 2020. Her career at Ohio State provided her opportunities to work in many areas, from lab tech to receptionist. One of the things she enjoyed most about working at the hospital was meeting, working with, and learning from people from a diversity of backgrounds.
After she retired, the last years of Noras life presented many health challenges. Being of strong will, she was a fighter until the end. To those who knew her, she was a thoughtful, soft-spoken person who tried to live out her faith in Christ on a daily basis.
Nora is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Ruth; her sister, Dorothy Marie Ricks; and her two brothers-in-law, Victor Ricks and William Vlasich. She leaves to mourn her passing her sister, Lois Beth Latimer-Vlasich; her brother, Hurd Scott Latimer; several nieces and nephews; as well as many cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025 from 11:00am until time of service at 1:00pm at Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Burial will follow at Hillsboro Cemetery.
