Norbert Charles Basel, 85
Pace, FL - Norbert Charles Basel, 85, formerly of Baltimore, Maryland, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.
Born in Baltimore, Norbert was the sixth of seven children born to Charles and Alberta Basel, all of whom have preceded him in death. He graduated from Mergenthaler Vocational Technical High School in 1958 and served in the U.S. Army Reserves following his graduation.
A skilled industrial electrician, Norbert's career spanned more than 50 years, during which he worked at several manufacturing facilities throughout the Baltimore area. He retired from Unilever in 1999 and soon after relocated to the Alabama-Florida Gulf Coast to be closer to his children, where he resided until his passing.
Remembered for his engaging sense of humor, kind-hearted nature, and an uncanny ability to fix anything, Norbert was deeply cherished by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Theresa M. Milford.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jane Basel of Pace, FL; his sons, Stephen J. Basel of Pensacola, FL, and Gerard A. Basel (Kristi) of Pace, FL; two grandchildren, Nolan Basel and Alexandra Basel; and son-in-law Justin Milford of Foley, AL.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Milton, FL, with Msgr. Reed officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Pensacola, FL with arrangements by Lewis Funeral Home.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Emerald Coast Hospice for their compassionate care during Norbert's final days. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org .
