Norbert Pennock Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Eaton Funeral Home & Cremation Center - Main Chapel on Dec. 2, 2025.
Norbert "Norby" Daniel Pennock, age 93, of Bourbon, Missouri, passed away peacefully at the family home on November 29, 2025, as the snow gently fell - something he had hoped for.
Norby was born on June 18, 1932, in Bourbon, Missouri, to the late Walter and Florence (Jones) Pennock. He grew up in Bourbon, attended the one-room Dollar Mill School, and remained a lifelong resident. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving proudly for several years and earning the rank of Sergeant.
When he returned home, he married the love of his life, Phyllis Hess, on August 25, 1956. The couple spent a short time in Montana, where Norby worked as a ranch hand and where their first child, Douglas, was born. They later returned to Bourbon and welcomed their daughter, Debbie.
Norby worked a variety of jobs over the years: at Proctor Products, hauling lumber for the Japan Store, teaching building trades at Bourbon High School, and later running his own construction business. He built many homes throughout the area and was known for solid work and steady craftsmanship.
Norby was happiest outside. He hunted in the same woods he grew up in and knew the land like the back of his hand. He spent his time hunting, fishing, trapping, gardening. Passing down his love for the outdoors through generations was one of his greatest joys. The outdoors wasn't a hobby for him - it was a way of life.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and will missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. He is survived by his children, Doug Pennock and significant other Jenit of Bourbon, Missouri and Debbie Parkins and husband Danny of Bourbon, Missouri; three grandchildren, Jana Pratt and husband Anthony of Bourbon, MO, Amy King and husband D.J. of Bourbon, MO, and Misty Parkins and husband Justin of Leasburg, Missouri; eight great-grandchildren: Brianna, Gavin, Abbie, Trenton, Mason, Everett, Brett and Dakota; six great-great-grandchildren: Dallas, Douglas, Harrison, Penelope, Piper and Levi; a brother, Paul Pennock of Peoria, Illinois and a sister, Anita Schmidt of Bourbon, Missouri; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Phyllis Pennock; his parents, Walter and Florence Pennock; four brothers: Zane Pennock and wife Carmolet, Asa Pennock and wife Frances, Benny Pennock and wife Juanita, Woodrow Pennock and wife Bonnie; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Pennock.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 11 AM – 1 PM, Saturday, January 17, 2026 at the Pennock Homeplace: 2723 Highway N, Bourbon, Missouri 65441.
