Norma Berg, 94,
Minot, ND, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Edgewood Vista Assisted Living, Minot.
Norma was born October 10, 1931, to Arnold and Edith Hill in Garrison, ND. Living on the family farm, she attended rural school in Roseglen Township, high school in Ryder and graduated from Minot High School in 1949. She was employed by the City of Minot for 43 years, working as secretary for four city managers, the city auditor, personnel director and two airport managers. She retired in 1992.
Norma married Gordon Paryzek of Bottineau, ND, in 1958. He was a math and science teacher at Erik Ramstad Jr. High School and a flight instructor. He died in a plane crash in June 1963. They had one son, Corey.
Norma remarried August 8,1968, in Minot to Glenneys Berg who was superintendent of the Minot water treatment plant. He had two daughters, Claudia and LeeAnn. They successfully blended their families and continued living in Minot.
Norma, although petite, was adventurous and tenacious. At the time Norma frequently flew with her husband Gordon, so she took flying lessons in order to have the ability to fly the plane in case of an emergency. She also spent many years on numerous bowling teams.
When Norma was in her mid-forties, she spent three and one-half months in the hospital with Gillian Barre Syndrome (GBS) caused by receiving the swine flu shot. She was paralyzed from head to toe but survived with little aftereffects.
When Norma was 70 years old, she and her sister-in-law, Beulah, took a hot air balloon ride over the Minot area which they both thoroughly enjoyed.
Norma was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church. Following retirement, she enjoyed volunteering with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and with the Minot Public Library, the Minot Visitors Center and the
American Red Cross.
After retiring she joined the Wise Women Investment Club and developed a new hobby of following the stock market which she found very interesting. She and Glenn spent many enjoyable hours at their Lake Sakakawea cabin, fishing from their pontoon, golfing at area courses, trying her luck at Four Bears Casino, traveling via bus tours across the US and Canada and visiting relatives in Norway. Norma appreciated her Swedish and Norwegian heritage, especially if it contained sugar, cream and butter. Up to her last day, she enjoyed her daily five o'clock vodka cocktail.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Royce (and Dorothy), Kenneth (and Beulah), Gordon Hill, and sister Ardys Morris (and Don); Husbands Gordon Paryzek and Glenn Berg.
Survivors include her son Corey (Wendy) Paryzek, daughters Claudia Berg (Robert Matz) and LeeAnn Tibor (Larry), and sister-in-law Julie Hill. Norma has five grandsons, Kolten and Jace Paryzek, Luke, Paul and Charlie Tibor, and ten great-grandchildren Christian, Heather, Gabriel, Ashton, Olivia, Harley, Keaton, Kilian, Kieran, and Ambrose, and numerous nieces and nephews.
