Norma Brinkley Cobble

Norma Catherine Brinkley Cobble, age 89, of Carrollton, Georgia passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025. Norma was born in Valdese, NC, on January 2, 1936. She was the youngest of eight children born to Clyde and Pearl Brinkley. Norma attended public schools in Valdese and later enrolled at Carson-Newman College before graduating from Lenoir-Rhyne College. She met her husband, Howard Cobble, at Carson-Newman while studying music. Howard and Norma married in 1957 and moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where Howard pursued his master's degree in Theology at the Southern Seminary.
Norma began her teaching career in Louisville and taught elementary school for over 40 years in Louisville; Carrollton, GA; DeKalb County, GA; and Hardin County, KY.
After seminary, Norma and Howard embarked on their ministry, serving at South Avondale Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL; Tabernacle Baptist Church in Carrollton, GA; First Baptist Church of Avondale Estates in Avondale Estates, GA; and Severns Valley Baptist Church in Elizabethtown, KY. Norma was the quintessential pastor's wife-supporting Howard's ministry while also cultivating her own through the gift of music. As a soloist and a beautiful singer, she shared her love of Christ through her music.
Norma was beautiful, kind, loving, and a delightful friend. In addition to music, she enjoyed gardening and found great joy in working in her yard and basking in the sunlight.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers and sisters and her son-in-law. Norma is survived by her daughter, Sandra Ottinger, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be at 2 pm April 16, 2025 from Tabernacle Baptist Church, Carrollton, GA. with Dr. Stephen V. Allen officiating.
