Norma Marceline Higdon

On September 16, 2021, Norma Marceline Higdon was taken home by her Lord to rest in peace. At the time of her death, Marcie had been with us 92 years. Marcie was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Jim of 61 years and their son Stephen. Marcie is survived by her sons John and wife Kathleen (Austin), Jim and wife Jeanne (Conroe), Joe and wife Linda (Austin), Dan and wife Sandra (The Woodlands), Chuck and wife Caryn (Austin) and Mike and wife Lisa (Concord, CA). She is also survived by her 17 grandchildren, Meghan, Forrest and his wife Michelle, Fr. Ryan Higdon, Jimmy and his wife Kelly, Adam, Zachary and his wife Chelsea, Andrew, Jacob, Amanda and her husband Daniel Gonzalez, Mary Kate and her fiancé Nicolas Ariza, Gabriel, Stephen, Christina, Shannon, Mary Marceline, Samantha and Charlie, and six glorious great grandchildren. Marcie was born on August 26, 1929, in Louisville, Kentucky to Charles and Mary Heller. She attended and graduated from Louisville Girls High School in 1947. Marcie was known as the "little girl with the great big voice" and her high school singing career culminated in being part of the Kentucky All State Choir. Her love for music was with her for her entire life. After high school Marcie pursued her dream of becoming a nurse and attended nurses' college. Marcie and Jim met soon after and fell madly in love. At that time a married women could not attend nursing school. Fortunately for us Marcie chose Jim and they married in 1948. Marcie worked for The Kroger Co. in St Louis, Missouri for 20 years, holding several different positions and retiring as a store office manager. After retirement Jim and Marcie settled in Austin in 1989, where they continued to do volunteer work, including 15 years with Caritas of Austin. Marcie and Jim loved to travel. They, along with their boys, traveled the lower 48, and with Jim, she managed to add most of the European countries, Russia, and China to the list of places they visited. After her marriage to Jim, Marcie converted to Catholicism and her love of God and Catholicism remained the main force in her life. Marcie's greatest joy has been watching her six sons and six daughters-in-law excel in this life and provide her with seventeen loving grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She will be sincerely missed. A hole is left in our hearts. Visitation will take place from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 23, 2021, at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home, 9700 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, 78750 (with rosary). A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 24, 2021, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 10205 RR 620 North, Austin, 78726. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery. Donations can made to Alzheimer's Association or Caritas of Austin.
