Norma Kormanik Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Campfield Hickman Collier Funeral Home, Inc. - Barberton on Aug. 31, 2022.
Norma Eileen Tschantz Kormanik was born in Copley Twp., Ohio, July 17, 1922, and passed away in Lakeway, TX on Monday, August 22, 2022. She grew up on a working dairy farm and graduated in 1940 from Copley High School. In 1943 she became an executive secretary on Mahogany Row for the Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. a perfect job for her as she was organized, detailed and a stickler about bad spelling and poor grammar. Norma was loving, fearless and strong. A devoted wife and mother who always put family first. Mom met Fred Kormanik on a blind date, set up by her sister Helen who told Mom Fred was a sharp dresser . They were married from August, 1949, until his death in 2017. In 1950, she became his right hand at Kormanik s Men s Wear, on 2nd Street, and later at 546 W. Tuscarawas Avenue, where for 40 years she handled all the bookkeeping, correspondence and often clerked in the store. Norma was an active volunteer in the community. She was a charter member of many Barberton organizations. She was the first President of the Barberton Jaycee Wives, a member of the Elks, Barberton City Club and Crescent Club. One year, she was in charge of Crescent Club s annual charity luncheon, a sold out event for 500 women. The morning of, she found out no one had ordered rolls. Desperate, she called Margaret Hiss (for whom she used to babysit). Margaret assured her she would take care of it. Norma said Margaret saved the day and her rolls were a huge hit. She liked to think she introduced Hiss Bakery s famous Butter Bits to a few ladies in the area. At nearly 100, Norma s mind was sharp. She remembered birthdays, anniversaries and other important dates and could still write shorthand. Norma is preceded in death by her parents, Grace and Otto Tschantz; brothers, Charles, Miles (Gladys), Louis (Comfort), Russell (Jeri); sisters, Helen (Mark) Solars, Dorothy (Ray) Briggle. She is survived by son, Gregg (Pamela) of Asheville, NC; daughter, Deb (John) Frankovich of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Katie of Dallas, TX; Kent (Alyssa) and great granddaughters Lina and Kira, of Alameda, CA. No services have been planned at this time.

Debis (My best buddy, for more years than I care to think of):
I am so very sorry and sad for the loss of your mom. From the first time I met her, she was so very kind to me, she must have known that you and I would be soul mates forever. I was always so comfortable at your home, and it was because of your mom and dad, and the way they welcomed me into your family. They cared about me, because I was your bestie.
Your mom read people so well, I know your mom was so proud of you, the choices you made and your accomplishments throughout your life. Well my pal, she was the last of our parents, and with her passing, a part of our youth and our life is gone, but not forgotten. You are/were a wonderful daughter to your parents, and you have a right to rest easy that you did all you could and then some for your mom and your dad. If there is anything else after this life show, your mom and dad are looking down at you with love, respect and pride.
Last, you picked a good guy, that was there for you and by extension your parents.
Love and sympathy to you and yours,
Ellis
