Paul Peter Kormanik

Paul Peter Kormanik passed away Sunday, August 6, 2023 at the age of 91. He was born to Michael and Nellie Chudik Kormanik in Conemaugh Pennsylvania, a town known for its steel mills, coal mines, and people of incredible resilience in the face of adversity. After earning his BSFR and MS from the forestry department at Penn State University, he began his career with the US Forest Service in Charlottesville, VA. A transfer to Athens, GA gave him the opportunity to earn his doctoral degree under the direction of Dr. Claud Brown at the University of Georgia while continuing his work as a research silviculturist with the USFS, a job he kept for 48 years. He was an enthusiastic fisherman, quail hunter, and tomato grower, and believed life would be incomplete without a dog or three to accompany him on his adventures. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Beverly Jean Duppstadt Kormanik; one son, Paul Dayton Kormanik; and one grandson, Daniel Miles. Also predeceasing him were brothers Nicholas, Joseph, John, and George Kormanik, along with sisters Ann Kormanik Marshall and Frances Kormanik. Survivors include sisters Mary Kormanik Malinick and Dorothy Kormanik Cox; daughter Taryn Leigh Kormanik; son Christopher Riordan Kormanik (Mary); grandson Jason Miles; great grandson Nathan Miles, and numerous nieces and nephews. Lastly, he is survived by his Grand Children in Wisconsin, Konrad Bowlus-Jasinski and Zosia Bowlus-Jasinski, who never failed to interest and entertain him.
