Norma Lee Powers Hanley, 88, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on September 6, 2024 at Allina Hospital in Owatonna, Minnesota, one day after her birthday.
Norma was born on September 5, 1936 in Peoria, IL, a daughter of Vera J. (Northrup) and John R. Powers. She married Kenneth A. Hanley on August 17, 1957 in Brimfield, IL. He preceded her in death on December 10, 2014 in Peoria, IL. She was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, Jack, Robert and Richard Powers.
Norma is survived by two sons, Michael Lee (Sally) Hanley and Patrick Edward (Sheryl) Hanley, four grandchildren, Joshua (Margaret) Hanley, Matthew (Rachel) Hanley, Thomas J. "TJ" (Elizabeth) Peterson, and Jillian Stowe and two great-grandchildren, Rhett Stowe and Elenor Marie Hanley.
Norma graduated from Brimfield High School and Illinois State University. Norma retired from Brimfield High School as a Business Education Teacher. She was always grateful to be a teacher at Brimfield. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kickapoo. She enjoyed participating in the quilting club, through the church, for several years.
Norma especially enjoyed her family and grandchildren. Attending their soccer, baseball and football games was a joy for Norma and Kenny. Seeing and talking to former students was a great delight to her and knowing what great citizens they had become was especially rewarding.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM on Friday, September 13, 2024 at St. Mary's Parish Hall in Kickapoo. Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church will be on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 10:30 AM, with a half hour prior visitation. Fr. James Pankiewicz will officiate and burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery, Kickapoo, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church or School.
