Norman Edward "Norm" Hopkins, a beacon of optimism and humor, passed away at the age of 84 on May 21, 2025, in Paoli, Pennsylvania, after a brave battle with Parkinson's Disease. Born on August 10, 1940, in Philadelphia, PA, Norm was a man whose adventurous spirit and love for life left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He enjoyed traveling with his beloved Patty across the United States and the world.
Norm's early years were spent in the vibrant neighborhoods of South Philadelphia, where he attended Child's Elementary School and Barrett Junior High School, before graduating from South Philadelphia High School. His love for learning led him to further his education at Temple University, where he studied briefly, embarking on a journey that would see him become a lifelong learner.
Professionally, Norm dedicated many years to Pitney Bowes as a sales trainer, where his charismatic personality and innate ability to connect with people shone through. He later shared his expertise in the kitchen design department at Home Depot, helping countless customers turn their houses into homes. Norm's colleagues often spoke of his mentorship and the positive environment he cultivated wherever he worked.
Norm was blessed with a loving family, including his beloved wife of 54 years Patricia Hopkins, his devoted children, Terri Hopkins Williams and Brian Hopkins (Francine), and his cherished grandchildren, Chloe Williams Starling and Briana Devose. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Quinn Antionette Devose and Jordyn Blair Starling. His loving cousins, Donna "Debbie" Pace and Ernestine "Dumpie" Johnson-Smith, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends, will deeply miss his presence.
An avid fan of Frank Sinatra and 50s rock and roll, Norm's love for music was infectious. His passion for classic films and old westerns was matched only by his talent as an artist, particularly in painting. Norm enjoyed various cuisines with southern and Italian among his favorites.
Norm's enthusiasm for Philadelphia sports was unparalleled. As a former season ticket holder, he fervently supported the Eagles, and he never missed an opportunity to cheer on the Sixers and the Phillies. He was also an accomplished fisherman and softball player, sharing his love for the sports with his family and friends. Described as adventurous, optimistic, and funny, Norm's sense of humor and positive outlook on life were his trademarks. In the words of the great poet William Ernest Henley, "I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul." Norm embodied this sentiment, living for his family, his friends, and all those he encountered throughout his rich and fulfilling life.
Norman Edward Hopkins will be remembered not just for the life he lived, but for the lives he touched. His legacy of love and laughter, will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him. As we say goodbye to Norm, we take solace in knowing that his journey was a life well-lived and that his memory will forever be a source of joy and inspiration.
