Norman Dean Mead
In loving memory of Norman Dean Mead, born on December 9, 1948, to mother Dorothy and father Dean (Norman) Mead.
Norm, or as his friends called him "Stormin," was a devoted husband to Debra Mead and father of Dana (Greg) Mead-Campion, Krista (Mike) Mead-Morley, cherished grandfather of Autumn (Ryan Fochs) Thorpe, Peyton Morley, Brawley and Reilly Campion. Honorary father to Nicholas Touros of Athens, Greece, and father and grandfather to his bonus family Beth and Dan Kellogg, and children Haley, Grant, and Cohen.
After returning from service in Vietnam, Norman married his love of 52 years and enrolled in carpentry school. Upon graduation, he began his long career as a carpenter with Ryan Companies. Norm's career grew alongside Ryan Companies and ended upon his retirement as Vice President of Construction. Throughout his career with Ryan Companies, Norm's professional accomplishments were significant, including several large projects that were cornerstones to rapid growth after Ryan expanded into the Minneapolis market and beyond. However, most importantly, he built deep, lifelong friendships with many colleagues who were always loyal and were by his side, sharing stories and laughs until the day of his passing.
Along with his commitment to his family and career, Norm had a passion for performance automobiles, competitive kart racing, Formula One, and other forms of racing. Norm was driven by excellence and competition. In later years, his expertise and meticulous attention to detail extended to designing and building model and remote control cars, trucks, and boats. In pursuit of these passions, he joined clubs and entered competitions, winning several awards and championships in those hobbies.
Norm was an avid music lover, always filling the house with tunes from all genres; as the house DJ, he curated playlists for birthdays, holidays, and special occasions. He was also an expressive storyteller, drawing the attention of those around him, and was often sought out for personal and professional advice. Those who knew him have described him as the "ambassador" and having a "huge heart for people," an "inspiration," and "a legend that will never be forgotten."
Norm accomplished all of this greatness in the face of a 40-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Diagnosed with MS at 35, Stormin faced all challenges with resilience and found countless successes in the fight. He passed away peacefully on January 30th, 2024, surrounded by his most cherished, leaving behind a legacy of love and strength, inspiring so many to be the best they can be.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 17th Washburn-McReavy in Edina MN at 2pm, with visitation one hour prior at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in memory of Norman.

Norm,
It’s Brandon.
We meet in front of Washburn while I was rooming my Cox Scorpion RC car.
You could see I could use some advice and ended up giving me a Bolink body.
The paint was concours style and I proudly retro fitted it on my Cox car. She was running a Super Champ, he invited me to see his hobby space. Norm and I reunited like 5 years later because I got a Job at Hub Hobby.
Norm thanks for being a mentor to me..
Much Love
