Nunzio D. DiBenedetto, age 71, a long-time Wilmington resident, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2025, following a brief illness.
Nunzio was born on January 3, 1954, in Siano, Italy; he was the cherished only son of the late Pio and Anna (Dardo) DiBenedetto. Nunzio was raised in a large and loving Italian family; he immigrated to the United States at three years old and his family settled in Everett, MA. Nunzio attended Everett Public Schools and was a graduate of Everett High School with the Class of 1972.
Following High School, Nunzio enlisted in the United States Army and served as an Army Ranger. Nunzio was honorably discharged and returned home to his family in Everett. Throughout his life Nunzio was proud of his service for a country he grew to love.
Nunzio went on to continue his education at UMass Boston and at Bunker Hill College where he met the love of his life Mary Thompson. The couple hit it off and were soon inseparable; they married in September of 1983 and made Wilmington their home that same year. Nunzio and Mary welcomed their son Nunzio in 1988; he was their pride and joy.
Family was everything to Nunzio and he treasured the times they spent together. Nunzio was a great cook and he loved having everyone around his table for great food and great conversation; he was happiest when he was feeding others. When Nunzio's son married he welcomed his new daughter Tori and was elated to take on his new role as Papa to his grandchildren Josie and George. Nunzio's grandchildren were his whole world and he loved nothing more than playing with them.
Prior to retiring, Nunzio worked as the IT Technician for the Town of Wilmington for many years. Nunzio had an endearing personality and vast knowledge of his field which made him quite an asset to the town. He worked in many public buildings and with various department heads and town employees who all thought he was a great guy.
In his spare time Nunzio enjoyed being outdoors tinkering in his garden and hunting down the perfect loaf of crusty bread or the best deal. He was very sociable and outgoing and made friends wherever he went. Nunzio will be fondly remembered for his love of family, friends, and conversation. He will forever live on in the wonderful memories he created and in the people he loved.
Nunzio was the beloved husband of Mary T. (Thompson) DiBenedetto, devoted father of Nunzio DiBenedetto and his wife Tori of Lowell, loving Papa of Josie and George DiBenedetto, dear brother of Grace DiBenedetto, Maria DiBenedetto, the late Annette Cascella and the late Josephine DiBenedetto. Special Uncle of Michael DiBenedetto, Daniel DiBenedetto, Pio DiBenedetto, Irene Hakins, Jason Phillips, Jessica Maynard, Lauren Taylor, Melissa Constanti, Beth Constanti, Marie Thompson and their families. Dear brother-in-law of Eileen Phillips, William Thompson, Christopher Thompson, James and Ileana Thompson, Judith and the late George Constanti, Michael Thompson, Roy Stratton, the late Daniel DiBenedetto Sr., the late Mark Thompson and the late John Thompson Jr.
