Richard E. Doherty, age 80, of Tewksbury, passed away peacefully at home on August 27, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Richard was born in Somerville, MA, on December 13, 1944; he was the dear son of the late Daniel and Helen (Hughes) Doherty. Richard was raised and educated in Somerville and a graduate of Somerville High School.

Richard enlisted in the United States Air Force on January 20, 1964, and actively served the country during the Vietnam War until June of 1967 when he was transferred to the Air Force Reserves and continued his duties until June of 1970.

Richard is survived by his children Michelle Francini and her late husband Frank, Michael Doherty and wife Lisa, Noreen Doherty, Daniel Doherty and wife Tina, Mia Williams and husband Neville, and Richard "Ricky" Doherty, his grandchildren Frank, Samantha, Michael, Mikey, Clifton, Steven, Alyssa, Brandon, Aaron, Kyle, Janelle, Bryce, Cameron, and great-grandchildren Jordan, Avery, Joe, Emery, Skylar, and Genevieve. He was the brother of Ronnie Quigley, the late Juline Wilson, the late Joan Miller, the late Jean Hiltz, and the late Daniel "Buddy" Doherty. Richard is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a Graveside Service with Military Honors at the Tewksbury Cemetery, 172 East Street, Tewksbury, MA, on Friday, September 12 th at 12:00 noon.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard's memory may be made to a Veteran's charity of your choice.
