Oba Lavon "Von" Ladnier

Oba Lavon "Von" Ladnier, 79 of the Silver Run Community, passed away peacefully at his home January 16th. He was born February 18, 1944 in Wiggins, one of two children to Oba and Mary (Cowart) Ladnier. He grew up in Silver Run and called it home his entire life. Farming and the country life was his roots and he stayed close to them. Hunting and fishing, planting gardens and taking care of animals were just the norm. Von did enjoy football and played through high school. He graduated from Stone County schools and went on to Perkinston Jr. College, earning his Drafting and Design degree. He and Patsy had known each other for a few years before deciding to get married in 1965. They lived in New Orleans for a short time while Von worked for a drafting company, but quickly returned home to Silver Run. He later went to work for NASA by way of Lockheed-Martin and made his career as an engineer. He worked on many projects over the years, but spent lots of time on the space shuttle program. Von was a simple man by every account. Not one for flashy dress or worring about such things, he was the exact opposite of Patsy, which made them an almost perfect match. He plowed his fields and worked his gardens. He could grow the biggest, tallest, prettiest tomatoes anyone could ever see or eat. He loved being in his gardens plowing and riding his tractor, whether he was bush hogging or discing his garden. He would always wait till the hottest part of the day to get out and start working. Von was a smart, witty, and fun person to be around. He always had the best comebacks for you with his nice, sarcastic, but fun personality. He recently enjoyed taking his Ranger and riding the property, listening to his football games, or his favorite talk show host Rush Limbaugh. Otherwise he enjoyed just hanging out, playing cards, and cooking some good meat on the grill. He was never one who asked for help, so we had to stay one step ahead of him, even if he got mad at us. We would take his funny lashings and he kept us laughing all the time. Von always made himself available with a helping hand. Now he didn't venture far from home unless it was absolutely necessary...and then it was a struggle to get him to go. He enjoyed his home, farm, and being around his family. Just him and his chicken, Henrietta, and his two cats, Chicken and Leopard were relaxing around the house. A laid back, country gentleman, Von was a man of his word. A loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather, his memories will live on in the hearts and minds of all whose life he touched. Von was preceded by his parents, Oba and Mary Ladnier, along with his loving wife of 57 years, Patsy, and his brother-in-law Kirby Ladner. Left to cherish his loving memories are: his only child, son Brian (Sahuna) Ladnier, also of Silver Run; his only sister, Marion Ladner of Oxford, MS. Von leaves a legacy to 4 grandchildren: Justin Ladnier, Bryn (Noah) Bailey, Koda Shaw (Austin Kleck), and Daci Shaw, with two great- grands, Kenleigh and Kearsyn, along with numerous extended family, friends, and neighbors through the years. To say we are going to miss him is an understatement, but we know he is with Patsy because he has missed her tremendously. Funeral services will be held graveside per his wishes, on Friday, January 19th in the Ladnier Cemetery at 1:00 PM. All are welcome to attend.
