Odette Madeleine (Fouquer) Garnich, 89, of Ewing, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, August 13, 2021.
She was born in Normandy, France to the late August Rene and Leonie (DuRoi) Fouquer.
Madeleine was born on a farm in 1931 Normandy, France. With her family she endured Nazi Occupation during WWII which instilled in her determination and grit.
Married in Paris by the early 50's, she moved to the United States where she raised four children. Madeleine raised her children to be strong, educated, and independent. This was a legacy she was very proud of and passed on through many stories and lessons.
Madeleine was a seamstress, studying in France as a youth, she operated a successful business for nearly half a century out of her home in Ewing. She always enjoyed her customers and took pride in being able to provide for her family passing on to her children a strong work ethic.
Special occasions were celebrated at her home with family and friends being treated to her delicious meals and gracious hospitality.
Madeleine cherished time spent with her family and always looked forward to her visits back to France to see relatives and lifelong friends. Over the years she brought her children and grandchildren on these trips to reunite family and create lifelong treasured memories.
She is survived by her loving children; Gregory Garnich, Peter Garnich (wife Stephanie), Marie Mennonna (husband Ken) and Patrice Malleus Roma; her sister Denise Poussier and her grandchildren; Lisa Malleus (partner Harold Boxill), Adam Mennonna, Renee Mennonna, Grace Garnich and Henry Garnich.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings; Louis, Paul and Raymond Fouquer, Renee Chaffenet, Simone Chevalier and Solange Fouquer, son-in-law Gene Malleus and her granddaughter Hilary Malleus.
A memorial gathering will be Saturday, August 21 from 1:00 - 3:00 PM at the Murphy Funeral Home, 935 Parkway Avenue, Ewing, NJ 08618. A funeral service will be at the funeral home at 3:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. ( www.Stjude.org)
