Orville S. Schnieder, 94, of Hopewell, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. Born on July 18, 1931, in Guttenberg, Iowa, Orville was the son of Edward and Sylvia Schnieder. He spent his early years in the Guttenberg area, where he attended school and met his future wife, Patricia A. Weber. The two were married on July 2, 1951, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Guttenberg. Their marriage spanned nearly 73 years until Patricia's passing in 2024. A devoted husband and father, Orville dedicated his life to caring for and supporting his family. A self-taught craftsman, he could build or repair nearly anything. His sense of humor and gentle nature endeared him to everyone he met-especially dogs, who seemed to love him instantly. Orville proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, demonstrating the same quiet strength and commitment that defined his life. Later, he built a long career at Caterpillar Tractor Co., retiring after 35 years of dedicated work. He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Orv (Linda) Schnieder of Hopewell, LuAnn (the late John) Grigsby of Canton, Lori (Gary) Perschbacher of Clinton, Indiana, and Paula (Charles Burchett) Schnieder of Peoria; his grandchildren: Chris (Shay) Driscoll; Samantha (Tim) O'Brien, Justin Burt, Ryan Burt, and Sarah Burt, Sarah (Brian) Strode, Amy (Nick) Reed, and Aaron (Kayla) Perschbacher; nine great-grandchildren; his brother Al Schnieder of Anamosa, Iowa; and his sister Susie Hale of Guttenberg, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Debra, and his sister, Shirley Hanson. In accordance with Orville's wishes, no public services will be held. A private family gathering will take place at a later date. Cremation rites have been entrusted to Lenz Memorial Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The A.R.K. Humane Society in Lacon, Illinois. Online condolences can be left at Lenzmemorialhome.com To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Orville, please visit our floral store.
