Otto Bader, a devoted firefighter, gifted storyteller, and lifelong lover of the outdoors, passed away surrounded by friends and family. A native of Slidell, Louisiana, Otto lived a life full of purpose, humor, and heart.
He was born to Otto Jr. and Estelle Bader and grew up in a loving home, where he learned the values of hard work, kindness, and family. Otto carried with him warm, vivid memories of his parents throughout his life, often sharing stories of his childhood with anyone lucky enough to listen.
And stories—Otto had plenty. He was well known for his storytelling, with a knack for keeping friends and family marveling at his tales. Just when you thought you had heard them all, he'd surprise you with another one—usually full of character, heart, and a little mischief.
Otto served his community with unwavering dedication as a firefighter in his earlier years, he also found peace and joy in simpler pursuits—repairing boats and lawn equipment, raising chickens, cooking hearty meals, and tending to his vegetable garden with the same care he gave to those around him.
He had a deep love for the outdoors and spent countless days crabbing, fishing, and hunting. These weren’t just hobbies—they were part of who he was and how he connected with the land and the people he loved.
Otto spent his final days surrounded by those who meant the world to him—Jill and family, Terra, Victor and family, Ryan, Jimmy, Aaron, Al, and his lifelong, childhood friends LJ Strain, Tookie Blanchard and Billy Abney. Their presence in his final moments was a reflection of the countless lives he touched with his warmth, loyalty, and unforgettable sense of humor.
Otto Bader will be remembered as a man of stories, service, and soul. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a life well lived.
