It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Overton Tucker Chambers, from Highlands, North Carolina. Tucker passed away while doing one of things he enjoyed most, taking his morning walk with his dog.
Tucker was known for his deep appreciation of the quiet beauty of Highlands, where he made his home and built lasting connections. His morning walks were a cherished part of his daily routine, a reflection of his love for nature.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Jeannie Chambers; his sons, Royce Chambers (Danielle) of Fredericksburg, VA, and Adam Chambers of Byron Bay, Australia, his daughters, Erin Britt (Travis) of Hodges, SC, and Susan Williams (James) of Franklin, NC, a brother, Tim Chambers (Karen) and his 13 grandchildren, Katie Grace, Lydia, Rebecca, Jon-Ira, Melissa, Asa, Mason, Josiah, Janie, Maddie, Grant, Levi and Clayton. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, members of Jeannie's family and friends who he considered family, and special friends, Debbie and Mike Clark. Tucker was preceded in death by his father, Overton (Tony) Chambers, II, his mother, Isabel Hall Chambers and a brother Thomas T. Chambers.
Tucker was a beloved husband, father, Grandad, and friend, whose warmth, kindness, and love for life touched everyone who knew him. Along with his wife, he owned and operated The Chambers Agency, Inc, as Realtor, property manager and vacation rental manager. He was a past president and active member of Mountaintop Rotary and sustaining member of the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation. As an Eagle Scout, he believed in service from an early age. He had a genuine appreciation of the local people of Highlands and loved to hear their stories. As a dog lover, Tucker had several over the years, but his last companion, Sadie, was with him on his last walk and stayed right by his side.
A memorial service will be held on October 23rd at 1:30 at the Church of the Incarnation in Highlands, where friends and family will gather to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of one's choice in his memory or to organizations like Episcopal Church of the Incarnation, Highlands Historical Society, Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust, Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society and of course, Mountaintop Rotary (mtrgives.org).
Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit will forever live in the hearts of those who knew him. Think of him when you go on a walk in the woods.
