Pamela Jo Parsons Schrader was born in Abilene, KS, December 2, 1956, and passed from this life October 3, 2025, at her home in Derby. She was the daughter of Vernon Paul Parsons and Francis Alice Chindamo. Pam grew up in Abilene, graduating from Abilene High School in 1974. She attended Manhattan Area Vocational Technical School, where she studied computer programming.
In June of 1979, Pam married Ronald Schlatty. They divorced in August 1995. In June of 1997, she married Bob Schrader in Hot Springs Arkansas. They remained together until his death in December 2020.
An outgoing, friendly person, Pam never knew a stranger, and left a positive impression that people remembered years later. She was adventurous and enjoyed travel, with hobbies that included horseback riding and scuba diving. She dove in Bonaire, the Caman Islands, Virgin Islands and Mexico. Her love of animals led to having three horses, and an Amazon Blue Front parrot that she kept for 23 years. Pam was a person of faith who got involved at church over the years. At the time of her passing, she attended Life Church in Derby, Kansas. Her faith in Christ and positive, courageous attitude kept her going through a long and arduous battle with cancer.
She worked for 33 years as a Driver's License Coordinator around Kansas, primarily in the Wichita Area.
Pam was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob Schrader, and a sister, Susan West and infant sister Kym Parsons. She is survived by her brother, Mike Parsons, and her partner, Bruce Fitzwater.
Pam has chosen cremation. A Memorial Service will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, October 18, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Gilstrap, First Baptist Church of Abilene, officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Abilene City Cemetery. Family will receive friends Friday evening from 5-7P.M., at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Phoenix Hospice or to the Abilene First Baptist Church. Memorials may be dropped off or mailed to Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW Third St., Abilene, Kansas 67410. Online condolences may be sent to www.martinbeckercarlson.com
