Pamelia "Pam" Sheryl Young, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and devoted friend, passed away peacefully at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA, on October 5, 2025, at the age of 75.
Born on April 4, 1950, in Lebanon, TN, to Howard and Georgia Johnson (both of whom preceded her in death), Pam was a bright light to all who knew her. From an early age, she was known for her compassion, intelligence, and strong sense of purpose.
Pam pursued higher education with determination, earning a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education, Social Sciences, and later a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Arkansas. Her academic achievements reflected her lifelong belief in the power of learning.
She went on to serve the State of Tennessee in several roles, including as a rehabilitation teacher for the blind and as a dedicated advocate with Children Services. Pam's work touched countless lives and demonstrated her deep commitment to helping others.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Pam had a lifelong love for books and once owned a bookstore, where she joyfully shared her passion for reading and community connection.
Her relationships with family and friends meant everything to Pam. She cherished time spent with loved ones and was especially devoted to her grandson, Luther Alexander Ward. Her daughter, Stephanie Dedra Ward, her grandson, her sisters, Penny Carroll (John) and Patricia Sobieszczyk (Bobby), and nephews, Howard and Hanley Sobieszczyk, will remember her for her enduring love, wise counsel, and unwavering support.
Funeral services for Pam will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 5:00 pm in the Peachtree Corners Chapel of Crowell Brothers Funeral Homes & Crematory with Rev. Jadon Cascio. The family will gather prior to the service with friends from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm at the funeral home.
In honor of her compassionate spirit, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, which provided exceptional care and support during her illness.
