Pat Philipps Obituary
Edwin Patrick "Pat" Philipps, 76, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024 at his home with his wife by his side in Glen Dale, WV.
He was born on June 8, 1948, in Wheeling, WV, a son of the late Edwin and Margaret Adalaide (Nesline) Philipps. Pat was a graduate of Bishop Donahue High School and later attended and graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree. After obtaining his master's degree, Pat continued his education and graduated from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. Playing an active role in the community Pat was a member of the Knights of Columbus Fr. Flanagan Council 1907 where he was Past Grand Knight, Moundsville Rotary Club Paul Harris Fellow and past president, the Snake Club and Cave Club and served in the past as St. Jude Park Commissioner. He was also a devout member of St. Jude Catholic Church. Pat dedicated his professional life to serving others as a funeral director, retiring from his esteemed position at Altmeyer Funeral Homes. His compassionate nature and commitment to his work were a source of comfort to many in their times of need.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Timothy Philipps.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Marianne (Wilson) Philipps; his son, Lance (Kelly) Philipps of Canonsburg, PA; his daughters, Laura (Dr. Steve)Young of Brentwood, TN and Lianna (Mario) Esquivel of Killeen, TX; a brother, Denny (Kathy) Philipps of Glen Dale, WV; his sister, Mary (Frank) Stoy of Canonsburg, PA; grandchildren, Alayna Philipps, Charlotte Young, Rhett Young, Jackson Esquivel and Gianna Esquivel, step-grandchildren, Doug Blynn, Ryan Blynn, Braydon Esquivel and Gavin Esquivel and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received Friday, December 20, 2024 from 4 pm until time of Rosary service at 7 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Homes, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Ave., Moundsville. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, December 21, 2024 at St. Jude Catholic Church at 11 am.
