Patricia L. Canfield, age 77, passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, March 26, 2025, at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore, PA.
Born in Whitaker, CA on November 17, 1947, she was the daughter of the late John J. (d. 2001) and Genevieve R. Hughes Hitchcock (d. 2002). Growing up in Susquehanna County, Patricia attended Elk Lake High School and graduated with the class of 1967. On October 14, 1967, she married the love of her life, the late Cleon Canfield (d. Jan. 17, 2020).
Patricia was a hard worker who held many jobs throughout her lifetime, including working with her father at the family restaurant in Laceyville, at Fashion Bug in Tunkhannock, and serving as secretary for Factory Direct in Wyalusing and McCain Gas and Electric. Most recently, she worked as a door greeter in WalMart for over 15 years.
When not at work, Patricia received the most enjoyment from spending time with her grandchildren and attending all their various activities. She also spent countless hours cooking and baking for her beloved family and enjoyed bowling. In her down time, Patricia could often be found watching TV, flipping back and forth between the Game Show Network and any crime show that happened to be airing. Her channel surfing would also occasionally stop on the QVC network and a package would often show up at the house soon after. Flowers were another of Patricia's passions and she could often be found tending to her colorful garden.
Patricia is survived by her son, Dale Canfield (Karen) of Meshoppen, PA; her daughter-in-law, LaDeane Canfield of Laceyville, PA; her grandchildren, Donean Lindblad (Ricky) of Sayre, PA, Erin Canfield (Jake Witcoskie) of Jenningsville, PA, Atkinson "Ace" Canfield (Rachel) of Old Town, ME, and Toni Franklin of Meshoppen, PA; her 3 great-grandchildren; and her sister Laura Volack (Richard) of Taylor, PA. She is also survived by her aunt, Margie Bowers of Joshua Tree, CA, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband and parents, Patricia is preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Frederick (d. 1975) and Nettie Canfield (d. 2004).
A Funeral Service for Patricia will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025 at 1:00 PM from the Sheldon Funeral Home, 459 Main St., Laceyville, PA with Reverend Ron Folk of the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will follow the service and take place at the Lacey Street Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Patricia's name to The Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 100 William St., Dunmore, PA 18510.
