It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Govea Castañeda on January 24, 2024, at the age of 90. Patricia was born on March 17, 1933, to Petra Govea and Valentino Govea in the San Fernando area of San Antonio's West side. Preceding Patricia in death are her siblings Eugenio Govea, Celestino Govea, Guillermo Govea, Paulo Govea, Pauline Govea, and Fernando Govea. Isabel "Chavela" Garcia is the sole surviving sibling. Patricia is also survived by her sister-in-law, Anita Govea, and brother-in-law, Paul Castañeda Sr.
Patricia graduated from Fox Tech High School, where she cultivated a strong foundation for her future endeavors. Growing up, Patricia played an integral role in the success of her family's small grocery store. Known as 'The Govea Grocery Store' on San Fernando St. where she gained financial acumen and a strong work ethic. These experiences shaped her into the devoted and resourceful matriarch she became.
On April 27, 1952, Patricia married the love of her life, George Garcia Castañeda, who preceded her in death just a month ago. Together, they were married for 71 years and shared a remarkable journey of love and commitment. Patricia and George were blessed with 13 children: George Jr. (Susan), Valentino (Yolanda), Fernando (Kandra), Mark (Sandra), Carlos, Frank, David, Michael (Alex), Lena, Laura (Sal), Vincent (Anita), Edward, and Lisa. Their family grew to include 32 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, a testament to the love they built together.
Her legacy is marked by her unwavering devotion as a wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother. An intelligent woman, Patricia served as a pillar of strength to her family, offering guidance and support through the years. She was actively involved in the life of her church, St. Leo's the Great. Throughout her years of unwavering faith, she not only found solace and inspiration within the church community but also paved a meaningful path for her family to follow. She dedicated her time and energy to various church activities, fostering a deep connection with the spiritual community she cherished. Her deep faith in Jesus Christ illuminated her path, and she will forever be remembered as a positive light who inspired and uplifted those around her.
Patricia peacefully left this world surrounded by her loved ones, joining her beloved husband, George, in eternal rest. May Patricia Govea Castañeda's soul rest in eternal peace, and may her memory continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
