Patricia Gossage Obituary
Patricia Marie (Magoon) Gossage, 76, of Mary Esther, Florida, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2024, despite her family's desire that she remain immortal. She was diagnosed with lung cancer in August 2023 and after a hard-fought battle, cancer won. She is survived by her wonderful husband of 52 years, John Gossage; favorite oldest daughter, Shannon (Aaron) Fries; beloved son, John (Kimberly); and favorite youngest daughter, Amanda Miller and her partner, Adam Thomas. Pat was the proud Memere of three amazing grandchildren, Breana and Garrett Gossage and Mack Fries, as well as three bonus grandkids, Dicey, Enoch, and Kaya Thomas. She is also survived by her siblings, (Irish Twin) Donna (Chris) Richards, Bonnie (Bob) Morrill, Marty (Andrea) Magoon, Debbie Fournier, and Jimmy Magoon; her sister-in-law and friend, Gracie Asmussen; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Pat was born on November 30, 1947, in Manchester, New Hampshire to Donald and Marie-Paule (Charland) Magoon. She was the eldest of six children and the rock of the family. Pat grew up in Southbridge, Massachusetts and graduated from Southbridge High School in 1965. In 1967, Pat moved to Boston with her sister, Donna, and some friends. She worked at the John Hancock Insurance Company in the John Hancock Building. In August of 1969, she and Donna (her partner in crime) headed south to Max Yasgur's farm in the small town of Bethel, New York for a three-day concert with 460,000 of their closest friends for what would become known as one of the greatest music festivals in rock history; Woodstock. She met her straight-as-an-arrow future husband, John, in 1970. He spotted her in a yellow dress at a friend's wedding, got her number, called, and they went on a date. The night ended with her throwing a cup of coffee on him and then, feeling badly, offering to dry clean his shirt. They did not get along at all, but when they met so she could return the cleaned shirt to him, he asked her out for ice cream and the rest is history. When John brought her home to meet his parents, he told Pat that his mother was hard of hearing, and he told his mother that Pat was hard of hearing. John simply chuckled for the following twenty minutes until Pat and his mother figured out the joke. They married in 1972 and began their family in 1974.
Pat loved to travel and enjoyed trying new things including Tai Chi, aerial yoga on the beach, swimming with the Manatees, and taking art classes. She loved life, was not afraid to do anything, and nothing could stop her from doing exactly what she wanted, NOTHING. She would help anyone in need and always put the needs of others before her own. She enjoyed entertaining, sitting on the beach with her coffee, the color yellow, butterflies, music, movies, reading, and art. Pat was very even-tempered but if you messed with her family, you experienced the wrath of Pat! She spoke to her daughters and daughter-in-law every single day (sometimes more than once). Pat and her late mother-in-law had a very special relationship and Pat had that same special relationship with her daughter-in-law, Kim.
Pat was happiest when surrounded by family and joined the church triumphant with that very family comforting her in her final moments on this beautiful earth.
No amount of time with the amazing Pat would have been enough for her family and friends though she gave them enough memories to last several lifetimes. Oh, how we loved her.
