It is with deep sadness that the family of Patricia Ann Kusik, 81, of Street, Maryland, announces her passing on August 7, 2025.
Patricia was born on February 10, 1944 in the Fells Point neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland. Raised by a devout Polish Catholic family, she attended Holy Rosary parochial school. Patricia's youth was spent in the company of her late brother, Joseph Nadolny, Jr., her sister, Diane Nadolny Houck, and a close-knit group of cousins and friends.
Besides swimming and playing tennis at Patterson Park, Patricia enjoyed many outdoor adventures with her local Girl Scout troop. She honed her camping skills during a scouting trip to the Shawangunk Mountains in New York and later became a Girl Scout troop leader.
As a teenager, Patricia wrote a local newspaper column and worked at numerous branches of the Enoch Pratt Free Library System. She met her future husband, Richard, at a Catholic Youth Organization dance.
Patricia graduated from Patterson High School in 1961 and enrolled at Towson University on a teacher's scholarship. Patricia received her Master of Education degree in 1979 from Towson University. In 1990, she earned her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Curriculum and Instruction from University of Maryland at College Park.
Her extraordinary career in education spanned over five decades and included work as an English teacher, a reading specialist, a learning disabilities specialist, and a school principal. She pioneered a series of "Learning through Play" workshops for parents for the Baltimore County Public Library system and taught test preparation techniques to both management and law students at the University of Baltimore. Patricia was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa educational fraternity and served a term as her chapter's president. She published scholarly articles in academic journals and spent over forty years working with dozens of students as a private tutor.
In addition to her professional endeavors, Patricia took great pleasure in her family. She was married to her husband, Richard, for 61 years. Together, they raised their three children, Robert, David, and Michelle. Patricia's family circle widened to embrace Robert's wife, Cori, David's wife, Tammy, and Michelle's husband, Justus. She was a proud grandmother to Robert and Cori's children, Miranda, Maerryn, Michael, and Madyson. Alongside her husband, Patricia loved hosting parties for friends, singing in the church choir, and traveling.
Services Visitation will take place from 2-4 p. m. and 6-8 p. m. on both Saturday, August 9 and Sunday, August 10 at Evans Life Celebration Home in Forest Hill, Maryland. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Pylesville, Maryland at 11 a. m. on Monday, August 11, with burial to follow at the church's cemetery. At the conclusion of the graveside service, family and friends are invited to gather for a reception at the church hall.
