Patricia Edith “Patti” (Ryan) Macek, age 82, of Austin, Minnesota, joined her father George, her mother Edith, and her sisters Joan, Sharon and Sheila, in heaven shortly after midnight on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at the Cedars of Austin. Patti leaves behind her two beloved sisters, Carol and Barbara, and many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends.
Ever true to her nature, Patti’s final words expressed greater concern for others than for herself. That nature led Patti to a life of service, not only to other humans, but also to animals. Patti’s professional life began in Special Education. As a lead teacher, she provided not only guidance and supervision to other educators, but also essential support to those students who needed it most. Once again, caring for those most in need, as a nurse, she chose to work with the elderly. In addition to the loving home she provided for her own, cherished shelter dogs, her care and concern for animals led her to work as a Veterinary Technician. Patti was a humble person. A source of great pride for her, however, and a part of her job as a Vet Tech, was to assist in finding loving homes for many retired racing Greyhounds. Though humble about her own accomplishments, Patti was both devoted to and intensely proud of her family, most especially her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Patti was clever and kind. A more helpful soul we will never encounter; but, above all, what will forever endure in the minds of those who knew and loved her will be her lifelong commitment to her most important vocation: that of devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.
A graveside service for Patti will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Calvary Cemetery in Austin, Minnesota. A Celebration of Life will follow the graveside service at Dusty’s Bar at 422 Main Street North, Austin, Minnesota. Please join us in an Irish celebration, come hungry and ready to share stories about how Patti touched your life. Honoring Patti’s love for animals, donations can be made in her name to the Mower County Humane Society. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Home of Austin are assisting the family with arrangements.
