Patricia Reed Wintuska, born on January 25, 1952, in Katonah, New York, went to her eternal home on October 13, 2025, in Bowling Green, Kentucky. She was the devoted and loving mother of Kate and Dave Wintuska.
To most, she was Patty. To us, she was Mom-Mama Bear when she was in full force. Fiercely independent, guided by unwavering morals, and rooted in faith, she lived life on her own terms.
Patty had a deep love for the French language, earning her Master's degree in French from the University of Kentucky. She often spoke fondly of her time studying abroad-an experience that shaped her lifelong appreciation for culture, language, and learning.
Her early adult years were marked by dedication and hard work as she built a career in administrative roles. It was during this time that she met her late husband, David Wintuska Sr. Together they shared a dream of building a family-a dream fulfilled with the birth of Kate, in 1991, and Dave, in 1992.
Mom's heart for children extended beyond just the two of us. She served for more than 20 years as the Children's Minister at Christ Church, guiding hundreds of children in their faith and planting seeds that will grow for generations. Her creativity, structure, and belief in the importance of church family shaped countless lives.
In her final decade, Mom faced dementia with the same fire and stubborn strength that defined her. Though the disease changed her daily life, it never dimmed her personality or spirit. We were honored to care for her, alongside the teams at Bungalows Assisted Living, Cardinal Landing Memory Care, and Hospice of Southern Kentucky. We are endlessly grateful for the grace, patience, and tenderness they showed her.
Mom is preceded in death by her husband, David Allen Wintuska Sr., and her parents, Miles Lewis and Ruth Burr Lewis. She is survived by her children, Kate and Dave Wintuska; her adored grandchildren, Jack and Sam Steiner; her cherished siblings, Mary Bowman, Jo Whalen, Chris Lewis, and Lynn Lewis; and many dear friends and loved ones who will forever carry her memory.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, October 21st at 1PM at Christ Global Methodist Church, 716 Cave Mill Road; BG KY.
Mom was a practical woman who preferred simplicity to ceremony. Those wishing to honor her may make donations to the Christ Church Memorial Fund (designated for the Children's Ministry) or Hospice of Southern Kentucky (hospicesoky.org/).
