Patrick Ray Cantu Jr., born on February 18, 2002, in Houston, Texas, passed away tragically on July 18, 2024, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was a vibrant soul whose life was cut short, leaving behind a legacy of joy, athleticism, and a spirit that lifted the hearts of those around him.
Patrick grew up in Houston, a city he adored for its energy and diversity. He was known for his outstanding athleticism, excelling in basketball and boxing. His love for sports was only matched by his charming personality, which made him incredibly popular, especially with the ladies. Patrick's fun-loving spirit and natural ability to befriend anyone he met made him a cherished figure in his community.
He brought light and laughter into every room he entered, and his absence will leave a void that cannot be filled. Patrick's life was a testament to the power of living with an open heart and an enduring zest for life.
Patrick is survived by a loving and devoted family. He leaves behind his mother, Maria Cantu, and his father, Patrick Cantu Sr., along with his stepmother, Amanda Rubio. His siblings, Angelina Cantu, Alyssa Rodriguez, Tabitha Duty, Erika Duty, Ava Guzman, Dylan Duty, Mahdi Farahani, and William Waggoner will forever cherish the memories they shared with their beloved brother. His grandmothers, Joann Cantu, and Rita Alvarez will miss his warm embrace and the joy he brought into their lives. Patrick's extended family, a vast network of aunts, uncles, cousins, and relatives, will remember him as a beacon of light and love.
Throughout his life, Patrick formed countless friendships, each one special and unique. His ability to connect with people from all walks of life was extraordinary. He had a rare gift for making everyone feel important and loved. His friends, who spanned across cities and states, will carry his memory with them, honoring his legacy by living life to the fullest, just as Patrick did.
The loss of Patrick Ray Cantu Jr. is a profound tragedy, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life, though brief, was filled with the kind of passion and enthusiasm that most people can only aspire to. He lived every day with purpose and joy, and his influence on those around him will endure.
As we say goodbye to Patrick, we reflect on the impact he made during his time with us. He taught us to cherish every moment, to approach life with a kind heart, and to embrace our loved ones with open arms. In his honor, we will strive to live as he did-with courage, love, and a boundless spirit.
A service to celebrate Patrick's life will be held, where family and friends will gather to share stories, laughter, and tears. It will be a time for all who knew him to come together and remember the extraordinary young man who touched our lives in countless ways.
Patrick's journey on this earth was a beautiful, albeit brief, adventure. He will be remembered not for the way he left this world, but for the indelible mark he left on the hearts of those he loved. His memory will live on, a guiding star in the lives of his family and friends, forever reminding us to live with the same love and fervor that Patrick embodied every single day.

I did not know Patrick. But I wanted to quote these few words from a song, Abraham, Martin and John, from Dion from many years ago.

Anybody here seen my old friend Abraham?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed lotta people but it seems the good they die young
You know I just looked around and he's gone.
