Daleville, VA – Dr. Patsy Rainey Joyner, 81, passed away Monday, November 25, 2024 at home. She was the wife of the late William Thomas "Tommy" Joyner, III, and the daughter of the late Ryland Roberts Rainey and Dorothy Cooley Rainey.
Patsy was a graduate of Windsor High School, Paul D Camp Community College, Old Dominion University and The College of William & Mary, where she received a doctorate in higher education administration.
Her love of learning and teaching inspired and influenced many over the years. She had a great appreciation for music, art and cats.
Much of her life revolved around Paul D Camp Community College. She was a member of the first graduating class, and after spending years teaching elementary school, began a very fulfilling and meaningful career there serving in various roles – most recently the Vice President for Institutional Advancement.
She was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for over 30 years. She was also a member of the DAR.
Left to cherish her legacy are her daughter, Pattie Joyner Lee and her husband, The Rev. Thomas G. Lee, Sr. of Daleville; four grandchildren, Emily Lee Smith of Kilmarnock, Thomas G. Lee, Jr. (Dara) of Roanoke, Mary Beth Lee (Nick) of Roanoke, and Ginny Lee of Daleville; seven great grandchildren, Kiera Lee, Aubrey Somers, Madeline Somers, Aayden Lee, Avery Lee, Harper Lee and Atlas Lucado; and many special nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her brother, Ryland R Rainey, Jr. (Nancy).
A celebration of life and reception will be held at Courtland United Methodist Church on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at 2PM following a private graveside service.

(To: the Family of Dr. Patsy Rainey Joyner)

I am sorry to hear about the passing of your loved one, my good friend and former fellow College of William and Mary, School of Education, doctoral student, Dr. Patsy Rainey Joyner. She was an outstanding doctoral student and college administrator.

We were both doctoral students in the College of William and Mary's, School of Education's, Higher Education Administration Program, during the 1980s. She was very instrumental in helping me learn about Paul D. Camp Community College (now, called Camp Community College) and collect data, about its budget information system, during the dissertation phase of my doctoral studies in the Higher Education Administration Program, of the School of Education, of the College of William and Mary, in Virginia, USA. It was an honor to have known her and to have studied with her at William and Mary.

May God continue to bless you all.

(From: Dr. Archie W. Earl, Sr., Former President of the College of William and Mary, School of Education, Graduate Student Association, c. 1983-1986).
