Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home on Aug. 7, 2024.
Patricia Wilkie Lynch, known and loved as Patty, Mom, and Grammy, left our world on August 2, 2024, after an extended hospital stay. She was born on August 11, 1940, in Evansville, Indiana. Most of her life was lived in Charlotte, North Carolina, graduating from Central High School in 1958. She started her family in Gallipolis, Ohio, and also lived in Concord, North Carolina for 16 years after retirement. Both small towns were dear to her heart.
Patty's working career spanned over 48 years, beginning at age 15 at The Charlotte Observer. She retired after 24 years with Duke Energy, a company she truly loved. Her co-workers were like a second family, many becoming her closest friends.
Patty's special quality was her endearing kindness and affable demeanor. Those who were a presence in her life were renamed "Sweetie," or she'd demote your real name and use it as a clarifier. "That Sweet Sam Oh, Sweet Helen I heard from Sweet William " She never forgot a birthday, and faithfully mailed cards with heartfelt messages to those she loved.
She was gifted with a beautiful sense of style in many areas, and had a real talent for decorating. Her beloved 'cottage style' home reflected her warm and inviting personality perfectly. She curated a four-pound bag of paint chips (seriously) and spoke of creamy whites, muted greens, and soft pinks and peaches like they were old friends.
Above all, her greatest achievement was raising three children as a single mother. She possessed the tenacity, resilience, and devotion to provide her family with unconditional love and stability. She went over and above to make birthdays and holidays special. Long before Pinterest, there was Patty, making beautiful cakes and costumes from scratch. Christmas was especially important to her, and she put great effort into making it magical. The centerpiece was always the beautiful, big Christmas tree, adorned with her handmade ornaments. When her family grew exponentially, there she was, behind the scenes, stuffing 18 stockings. Her profound love and self-sacrifice will be in every holiday memory, forever.
Patty's legacy will be cherished and kept alive by her children: Lee Ann Hudson (Tim), Timothy Lynch (Angelica) and Christy DiCarlo (Dennis); Grandchildren: Scott Hudson, Evan Hudson, Drew Hudson, Lauren Hudson and Alec Hudson; Blanca Lynch Murphy and Carmen Lynch; Jackson DiCarlo, Chesney DiCarlo, Denton DiCarlo, Hudson DiCarlo and Bennett DiCarlo; Great-grandsons, Clayton and Timothy, and her beloved dog Mandy. Patty also left many cherished friends including Debbie Harris, Bonnie Smith, Jeannie Hudson, and Linda and Terry Oliver.
She is preceded in death by her mother and step-father, Genevieve and James Conder, and her dear friend Karin Jehn.
The family extends our deepest gratitude to Claudiu Mioc (Sam), PA, and "Sweet Tanya" (front desk) with Novant Heart and Vascular Institute, Matthews. Their care and genuine concern gave us precious more time with our mother.
We will gather on Sunday, August 11, 2024, with a small service at 2 p.m. There will be a celebration of her life and first heavenly birthday with an open-house reception from 2:30-4 p.m.
