Paul Michael Behrends was born August 2, 1954, in Estherville, Iowa, the son of Marceline (Jacobsen) and Oscar Behrends. He passed away in Emmetsburg, Iowa on August 5, 2025, just after celebrating his 71st birthday.

Paul attended elementary school in Ringsted, Iowa, later moving to Estherville and graduating with the EHS class of 1972. He continued his studies at Iowa Lakes Community College, Minnesota State University at Mankato, Moody Bible Institute and Pensacola Christian College. His Lord and Christian faith were central to his life.

Paul's long working career began as a cook at the Gardston Hotel Restaurant in Estherville. He later worked as a teacher in a one room schoolhouse in South Dakota, Robbs Flat K-8. He was Circuit Bible Teacher at New England Fellowship of Evangelicals, Missionary Teacher at Swaziland Africa Evangelical Fellowship, Program Director for several counties at Addus Homecare, ESL Teacher at Parkland College and completed his working years as Teacher and Owner of Englishtutor4u.

Paul married Marlene Tribby and they eventually settled in Champaign IL. The marriage was later dissolved. Following a stroke he suffered in 2023, he moved to Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg, IA.

Waiting in heaven for Paul were his parents and brothers, Larry and Jay.

He is survived by his brother, Mark Behrends (Barbara) of Fairmont, MN and extended family members.
