Paul S. Burkey DDS

Paul S. Burkey, DDS, MS, 67, of Libertyville, IL peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 31, 2024, while surrounded by his family. He was born in Waukegan on April 6, 1957 to Dorothy Annette and Gerald Burkey. He grew up in Zion and graduated from Zion Benton High School. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Loyola University of Chicago. He is a graduate of Loyola University School of Dentistry where he excelled in his studies. He pursued specialty training at the University of Iowa where he completed a Master of Science degree and earned a Specialty Certificate in Orthodontics.
He led a solo orthodontic practice in Vernon Hills, where he enjoyed 38 years in his field of serving patients. He was highly esteemed by his colleagues and patients for his exceptional orthodontic skills and caring nature. Paul cared deeply about teaching and mentorship of others in the dental field and also served on the UIC Dental Alumni Board of Directors, including one term as president.
Paul was always committed to his family. He was a devoted husband to Alisa whom he married in 1987 and loving father to his three sons. He enjoyed working on his classic cars, many outdoor activities including skiing, boating, camping, golfing, traveling, and spending time with his family. He enjoyed his years of involvement with the Libertyville Boy Scout Troop 71. Paul attended Christ Church Crossroads where he faithfully served as a deacon and elder; he used his gift of evangelism to teach others the basics of the Christian faith.
He is survived by his wife, Alisa, his sons Luke (Caroline) Burkey; Seth (Angel) Burkey; Daniel Burkey; his grandchildren, Charles and Anna Burkey; his sisters Andrea Lynn (Neal) Harrison and Nancy Knutsen. He was preceded in death by his parents Dorothy Annette and Gerald Burkey; brother Gerald Burkey; brother-in-law Eric Knutsen.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2024 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave in Libertyville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at the funeral home. Interment will follow to Lakeside Cemetery in Libertyville.
