Paul Carroll, Jr. Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center on Jul. 29, 2025.

Paul Donald Carroll, Jr., 67, passed away peacefully at home on July 25, 2025, with his beloved wife Kim at his side, following health complications.

As he recently said during home hospice care, "This kind of sucks." That wry honesty sums up Paul's humor and helps elicit a smile even in sadness. It's a fitting reminder of the wit and warmth that defined him-and a comfort to the many who knew and loved him.

If family pride were a sport, Paul would have been a world champion. He adored his two sons, Max and Pat, and was endlessly proud of his four grandchildren - Jaxson, Elliana, Hadley, and Henry. Nothing brought him more joy than being surrounded by family.

A close second was food. Paul was a true grill master and hosted many unforgettable meals from behind the BBQ, serving up shrimp, ribs, and steak with flair. His legendary (and now lost) signature barbecue sauce will remain a mystery.

Paul took great pride in his Delaware community. He was a regular at Clancy's Pub, often in the company of his loyal dog O'Mally. For years, he served faithfully as an usher at St. Mary Catholic Church, where he also helped organize fundraising efforts. An artist at heart, Paul expressed his creativity through a career in retail signage, as well as through personal passions like photography and woodworking.

He was a friend to everyone and a stranger to no one. Paul's life was defined by generosity, gentleness, humor, and a contagious optimism. His friendships - many of them lifelong - were a testament to his character.

Emerald Isle, North Carolina held a special place in Paul's heart. It was there he courted Kim, the love of his life and wife of 39 years. It's where he built towering sandcastles with his sons, nieces, nephews and later his grandchildren. Where he shared porch-side cocktails with Jimmy Buffett playing in the background, and watched his grandchildren play in the same ocean that brought him so much joy as a young man.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to all the friends, relatives, healthcare professionals, and social workers (especially Delaware Transit Authority) who supported Paul throughout his illness.

Paul's legacy of family, love and community lives on through all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Kim; his sons, Max (wife Stephanie, children Jaxson and Elliana) and Pat (wife Macaira, children Hadley and Henry). He is also survived by his mother, Dorothy and siblings, Colleen (Rory), Maureen (Glenn), Kathleen (Spencer), and Michael (Robin); as well as his nieces and nephews, Alysse, Reilly, Emma, Sally, Spencer, Sully, Sophie, and Quinn. He is also survived by brother/sister in-laws Kathy (Jeff), Kevin (Linda), Kris (Geneva); as well as his nieces and nephews, Joe, Andy, Braden, Alexis, Devon, Erica, and Colleen.

Paul was preceded in death by his father, Paul D Carroll, his mother-in-law, Francis, father-in-law Eric, brother-in-law John, and nephew Ryan.

The family will receive friends on what would have been Paul's 68th birthday, Friday, August 15, 2025 from 4 - 7 pm at the Snyder Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Drive at W. William Street, Delaware. A funeral mass celebrating Paul's life will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 10:30 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 82 E. William Street, Delaware. Inurnment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. The St. Mary Bereavement ministry will then host a reception in the Snyder Funeral Center Community Room.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Delaware County Humane Society, 4920 OH-37, Delaware, OH 43015 or by visiting https://hsdcohio.org/donate/
