Saddleback Chapel Mortuary - TustinIt is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Paul Aloysius Cook, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, who departed from this world peacefully at his home in Long Beach, California, on August 18, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on October 11, 1927, in Festus, Missouri, Paul lived a life rich in experiences and love, leaving behind a legacy that will be forever remembered.
Paul dedicated over 30 years to his career as a delivery driver for Herrell Distribution in Imperial Missouri, where he was known not only for his diligence but also for his outgoing personality. His friendly smile and infectious charm made him a beloved figure in his community. He loved connecting with people and had an incredible ability to make everyone feel valued. His warmth and affection radiated even towards his caregivers, with whom he never hesitated to express his love and appreciation.
Serving in the United States Army during World War II was one of Paul’s proudest accomplishments. As a Corporal stationed in the Philippines, he was a Message Center clerk, where he proudly earned the Medal of Freedom, alongside numerous mentions and pins—a testament to his bravery and dedication to his country. He often reminisced about his service, delighting in sharing stories that encapsulated his experiences during a pivotal time in history.
In addition to his military service, Paul possessed a passion for flying that began with his education. He graduated from Festus High School before earning his Pilot's License at Ground School for aircraft pilots. Flying was, without a doubt, his first love, a pursuit that brought him joy and fulfillment.
Paul's hands were skilled in nurturing life as well, particularly in his beloved garden where he took pride in growing fresh tomatoes. This hobby brought him great satisfaction, representing the love and care he exhibited not only for plants but for all those around him.
Family was of utmost importance to Paul. He is survived by his loving children: Michael Cook and his wife Wendy, Mark Cook and his wife Cindy, Charles Cook and his wife Suzy, Dennis Cook and his wife Susan, Paul Cook, and his daughter Vicki Neace. Paul also leaves behind a multitude of friends and family whose lives he touched, illuminating their days with his remarkable spirit.
Paul joins his dear wife, Rose Cook, and his daughters, Paula and Mary Katherine, who have preceded him in death. The bonds they shared remain a cherished part of his story, and he will be fondly remembered for the love and kindness he brought into their lives.
As we gather to celebrate Paul's life, we invite you to honor his memory at the upcoming services. A Mass will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Irvine, CA on September 5, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed by a viewing at Saddleback Chapel in Tustin from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. His final journey will conclude with a graveside service at Riverside National Cemetery on September 8, 2025, at 1:15 PM.
Though he may no longer be with us in body, Paul Aloysius Cook's spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and an unwavering zest for life. May he forever rest in peace.
