June 27, 1935 - August 21, 2025
Paul Fede, 90, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him, peacefully passed away on August 21, 2025 after a courageous battle with dementia. Born in Brooklyn, New York on June 27, 1935, Paul lived a rich and vibrant life that touched countless hearts along the way.
Paul proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a young man, maintaining his trim, agile 125-pound frame throughout his entire life-a source of personal pride. Following his military service, he built a successful career as a lithographer while nurturing his lifelong passion for all sports, especially as a diehard New York Yankees fan.
In 1966, Paul married Ruth Johnson and together they raised three devoted children: Christine Argendorf (Scott), Maryann Sigua (James), and Peter Fede (Christine Castellanos). Though their marriage ended in divorce, Paul and Ruth's relationship came full circle over the years, and they found a way to navigate their differences with mutual respect and enduring care for one another. His legacy continues through his seven cherished grandchildren: Christian, Alex, Amanda, Brandon, Paul, Sabrina, and Elizabeth. Paul was preceded in death by his four siblings but is survived by a dozen devoted nieces and nephews who will greatly miss their beloved Uncle Paulie, always the favorite, and the last cherished relic of his generation.
Known online as "Disco Paolo," Paul was truly the life of every party-a one-of-a-kind man whose infectious spirit drew people of all ages. Though not one for lengthy conversations, he had an extraordinary gift for making people laugh. His legendary dance floor performances were unforgettable spectacles as he enthusiastically attempted the latest moves, from breakdancing to moonwalking. While his execution may have been unconventional, his charm was undeniable, often finding himself surrounded by young admirers who would playfully lift him through the air.
Paul's journey took him from his beloved Brooklyn, where he started his family, to Staten Island, where he raised his children, and finally to New Jersey, where he lived with his daughter Maryann and became a cherished fixture in the community. At the local bowling alley, he achieved near-perfection with a remarkable high game of 299, earning admiration from fellow bowlers.
As the neighborhood's unofficial guardian, Paul could be seen performing countless acts of service-managing neighbors' garbage bins, maintaining his legendary garden and pristine hedges, and even vacuuming his lawn to perfection. Well into his later years, he was a familiar sight riding his bicycle through the neighborhood, always dressed in his signature brown slacks tucked into his socks.
To his grandchildren, 'Pops' was a second father-their biggest fan at baseball and soccer games, their reliable chauffeur, and their constant source of support. His generosity knew no bounds; he would literally give you his last nickel if you needed it.
Though never formally educated, Paul possessed a clever, practical intelligence that amazed those around him. He had an uncanny ability to solve problems that left others stumped, often prompting people to wonder, "Why didn't I think of that?" His mischievous side showed through his love of practical jokes, including his notorious habit of climbing ladders to knock on windows and startle unsuspecting family and friends-sometimes resulting in his own tumbles, which only added to the family lore. Paul always carried a handkerchief in his pocket, and his go-to party trick was transforming it into a little mouse that would magically jump from his hand. At countless weddings, baptisms, and even funerals, he could be found in a corner, delighting children with this simple but enchanting bit of magic.
Paul's stubborn determination defined his approach to life, and he wouldn't have had it any other way. His distinctive voice and larger-than-life personality made him unforgettable to everyone he encountered.
Even during his final chapter at Complete Care Bayshore nursing facility, Paul's remarkable spirit never dimmed. His sense of humor remained intact as he danced through the hallways and charmed staff by approaching the medication cart to request "a scotch on the rocks." The entire facility-staff, residents and visitors alike-knew and adored him, a testament to his enduring ability to brighten any room he entered.
Paul Fede lived a good life as a good man. One of a kind in every sense, he will be profoundly missed by his family forever, but his legend-and the joy he brought to this world-will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
To know Paul was to love Paul.
