Paul D. Habermehl of Vermilion passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
He was born on January 21, 1940 in Augusta, Kentucky. He moved from Kentucky with his wife Carolyn 64 years ago and they made Vermilion their home.
Paul proudly served his country in the United States Marines from 1957-1960. Following his military service he began a career at Ford Motor Company, where he would work for more than 30 years. Retirement never slowed him down. He continued working for Gage Products, Omnichem and most recently Auto Zone in Vermilion.
He was a devoted member of St. Mary Catholic Parish in Vermilion. Paul lived his life dedicated to his family, faith and his community. Paul loved spending time with his family. He loved golfing, watching his grandchildren play their sports and volunteering for the community. He worked school concessions, meals on wheels and helped to revitalize the city pool. His greatest accomplishment for the city and no doubt his favorite project, was starting Flags on Liberty, where he made some great friends.
Paul also loved organizing monthly Ford Retiree luncheons and working on puzzles.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Carolyn (Thornsbury) Habermehl; and their adoring children Christopher (Jean) of Vermilion, Cindy (Joe) Rich of Amherst and Kurt (Cara) of Vermilion. Paul was incredibly proud of his grandchildren Lauren (Kyle) , Caleb, Sarah, Heather, Ethan (Taylor), Ryan, Sophie, Emily, Chad, Hillarie (Cody), Hallie and Luke. Great grandchildren Everest, Thomas, Elias, Emmett and Teagan; and honorary son, Jeff Rich. He is survived by his sisters Margaret Ann, Virginia, Evelyn, Janice and Rita. Paul had many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Viola, his brothers Robert and Donald, sister Sr Mary Michyl SND and two infant sisters.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Aug. 15, 2025 from 3-7 PM at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street Vermilion, Ohio. Prayers will be said on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Military Honors presented. A mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Parish, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion Ohio 44089.
