Reflections of the Life of
DEACON PAUL ARCHIE JOHNSON, SR.
Alpha - July 6, 1945 - Omega - July 30, 2024
"I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith."
2 Timothy 4:7
The Book of Life was opened for Paul Archie Johnson Sr. on July 6, 1945, in Utica, Mississippi to the union of the late Robert Johnson, Sr. and Hattie Lou Johnson. The Book of life was closed when Paul departed this earthly life in the evening of July 30, 2024, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi.
Paul was a Christian and confessed Christ at an early age joining Mount Zion CME church in Utica, Mississippi. He later united with Saint Paul Church of God in Christ in Jackson, Mississippi and under the leadership of Dr. Jesse Kelly, served as deacon. He was a dedicated servant who
served faithfully in several capacities, even until the end. Paul received his early education from Hinds Agricultural High School in Utica, Mississippi, and later attended Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.
On March 30, 1969, Paul was joined in holy matrimony to his love the former Betty Jean Coleman of Edwards, Mississippi. To this union one son was born who was the joy of their life, Paul Archie Johnson, Jr. affectionately known as "Tiger."
Paul never met a stranger and enjoyed helping others. He wore many hats, including those of a mechanic, an electrician, and a plumber. Paul was employed with Shell Oil Company as an engineer for over 20 years before retiring. He was also employed by the Mississippi Department
of Corrections as a security officer for many years. As a member of the United States Armed Forces, Paul fought in the Vietnam War receiving an
Honorable Discharge as a testimonial of his honest faithful service. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Robert, and Hattie Johnson and two sisters, Louise Johnson Richardson and Maggie Johnson Lockhart. He is survived by his devoted wife of 55
years, Mrs. Betty Johnson; one son, Paul Johnson, Jr. (Jackson, Mississippi); one brother, Robert Johnson Jr. (Columbia, South Carolina); one sister, Velma Clincy (Jackson, Mississippi); two grandchildren, Christen Johnson and Caleb Johnson (Jackson, Mississippi); and a host of
nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends all who loved Paul dearly and will truly miss him.
