Paul Messerschmidt, 58, of Batesville, passed away January 18, 2024. He was diagnosed with Glioblastoma brain cancer in 2022. The son of Ruth (Schneider) and Leroy Messerschmidt, he was born on May 9, 1965 in Hamilton, Ohio.
Paul graduated from East Central High School and went on to receive a degree in mechanical engineering at Purdue University. He was a member of St. Anthony's Church in Morris.
Paul worked for many years at Hill-Rom as a manufacturing engineer. He also worked at Toyota Material Handling in Columbus as a design engineer.
He served as a volunteer fireman for Morris Fire Department for 16 years.
Paul was a long time member of the East Bowl bowling league. While his cancer diagnosis may have taken him too soon, the memories that were shared and his sense of humor will stay with those who loved him forever.
Paul is survived by his wife, Terry (Flannery) Messerschmidt; children: Marine Lance Corporal William Messerschmidt; Josh Wissel; Kaitlyn (Jake) Miller; and grandson, Theo Wissel. Other survivors include his mother; brother, John (Debbie) Messerschmidt; sisters: Janice Riddle; Lori (Bryan) Priebe; Sharon (Ken) Gardner; Anita Messerschmidt; Amy (Nic) Wonnell and several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his loyal companion TT, who never left his side.
Paul was preceded in death by his father; his brother-in-law, Steve Riddle and several nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Morris Volunteer Fire Department. Contributions can be made at the visitation or by mailing them to Meyers Funeral Home, PO Box 202, Batesville, IN 47006.
Visitation will be held Sunday, January 21, 2024 from 1-4 pm at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville with a 12:30pm Rosary service prior. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony's Church in Morris on Monday, January 22nd at 11 am. Fr. Shaun Whittington officiating.
