Paul J. Shea, age 64, of Plymouth, passed away peacefully with his daughters by his side on Saturday, October 18th, at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston. Paul was the devoted husband of the late Josephine Raneri-Shea, and the loving father of Sarah Cushing and her husband Peter of Plymouth, and Taylor Shea of Plymouth. He was the proud and cherished grandfather of Madison and Mason Cushing. Paul is also survived by his brother Richard Shea and wife Lori Shea of Plymouth, his sister Mary Rose Dupuis and husband Peter Dupuis of Boston, along with several nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
Born in Brighton on March 1, 1961, Paul was the son of the late Michael and Mary Shea. He grew up in Belmont before moving with his family to Plymouth in 1976. Paul attended Plymouth-Carver High School and quickly built a successful career as a carpenter. He began working for the Boston Wharf Company in South Boston and, in 1995, joined the North Atlantic States Carpenters Union, Local 328, where he remained a proud and dedicated member until his retirement in 2022.
Paul met the love of his life, Josephine, in 1984, and the two were married on October 17, 1987. Together, they created a loving home and raised their family in Plymouth. Paul was a devoted husband and father who treasured every moment spent with his family. He loved the ocean, boating, and lobstering, and found joy in simple moments by the water.
To know Paul was to love Paul, he made friends everywhere he went. Paul was the type of person you could meet once, but you never forget along with the dent in his forehead. It was no secret that his greatest joy in life came from being a father. When Paul wasn't working, he was with his girls. From early morning nature walks to see the Fall foliage in the morning sun, sledding after dark and front yard ice skating rinks in the winter, to summer weekends spent pulling lobster traps and jumping off the mile marker, Paul created a childhood for his girls that most could only dream of. He was the dad that never left a room without saying "I love you", never ended a phone call without saying how proud of us he was. Since the moment he became a father, Paul made certain that their cups were overflowing with his love, enough to carry them through even after he is gone.
Paul will be remembered by many for his hardworking spirit, generous heart, unique sense of humor, and wild stories. But, above all Paul will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family-he will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him, especially his loyal Doberman, Vinny.
A visitation will be held at the Cartmell-Davis Funeral Home, 619 State Road, Plymouth (Manomet), on Thursday, October 30th, from 4:00 PM till 7:00 PM, followed by a service at 7:00 PM. Paul's family will gather in private for a celebration of life, which will take place in the weeks to come.
