Sharon Anne Doherty (Gilmartin) passed away peacefully Sunday, October 19, 2025 at home surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of Robert Michael Doherty and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many.
Born in Weymouth, MA to Carol A. Gilmartin (Ouellette) and George A. Gilmartin, Sharon grew up in Abington surrounded by loving family and neighbors. She was a member of the Abington High School Class of '74. After graduating, she began her career at Abington Savings Bank where, through hard work and dedication, she rose to the position of manager in 1983.
After over two decades at the bank, Sharon and her family moved to Halifax where she chose to follow a new and deeply meaningful path as a paraprofessional at Halifax Elementary School. She touched countless young lives over more than twenty-two years as a one-on-one aide, classroom aide, and in many other roles supporting students from kindergarten through sixth grade. Her kindness, patience, and ability to make every child feel seen and valued left a lasting impression on the entire school community.
Before beginning her professional career at Halifax Elementary, Sharon devoted her time to volunteering in her children's classrooms. She had a special gift for bringing people together, inspiring others to join her in supporting the Halifax community through events like Santa's Breakfast and School Family Nights.
Sharon expressed her love through acts of kindness and creativity. She lovingly sewed clothes and knitted blankets for her family, created scrapbooks and jewelry, and filled every gathering and special occasion with the warmth of her cooking and baking.
Above all else, Sharon loved her family. Family was the most important thing in her life and she was her happiest when spending time with them. It did not matter the place, time or occasion as long as her family was there.
Sharon is survived by her loving husband, Robert; her children and their spouses: Rachelle Doherty of Leslie, MI; Sean and Kristin Doherty of Weare, NH; and Carolyn Doherty and Kristian Steele of Orlando, FL. She is also survived by her sisters and their spouses: Michelle and Thomas Hardiman of Plymouth, Alynne and John Greene of Randolph, and Kathleen Cole and Al Beane of Sandwich. Sharon leaves behind six adored grandchildren-Justine, Christian, Alexis, Finn, Birdie, and Ollie-one cherished great-granddaughter, Leighton and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Peter Gilmartin, and stepson, Brian Doherty, whom she held in close memory since their passing.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Sunday, November 2, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Cartmell-Davis Funeral Home, 373 Court St,
Plymouth, MA 02360, with a service immediately following
