Paul James Spenner

Paul James Spenner, a cherished family man, respected mechanical engineer, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully of natural causes on August 23, 2025, in Bradenton, FL, at the age of 91. Paul was born on August 2, 1934, in San Pierre, IN, the youngest of eight brothers and sisters who all predeceased him.

Paul's early years in Indiana were the foundation of a life characterized by hard work and a love for athletics. He shone particularly bright on the basketball court during his school days, an interest that would become a lifelong passion for sports. After completing his education, Paul served as a rifleman and then as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army, roles that spoke to his bravery and sense of patriotism.

Following his honorable military service, Paul embarked on a successful career as a mechanical engineer. His analytical mind and handy skills were not only evident in his professional life but also in the loving home he built with his beloved wife, Sandy. Paul and Sandy were married for 67 years. Together they raised a family that included their daughter Debbie, son Kirk, and their youngest daughter Kathy, all of whom inherited their father's friendly nature and intellectual curiosity.

Paul's family was the cornerstone of his life. His granddaughter Desirae Saunders-Spenner, his great-granddaughter Willow Grace Rediker, and daughter-in-law Lori Harper brought him immense joy and happiness. He cherished every moment spent with them and was a constant source of wisdom and encouragement.

In his leisure time, Paul was an avid fan of sports, particularly rooting for the Florida Gators, the Tampa Bay Bucs, and Notre Dame. In his younger days, he bowled in leagues and won many trophies. He loved to play cards with family and friends. Paul was a member of the Palma Sola Bay Yacht Club for many years. He and Sandy enjoyed traveling, dancing, and watching Family Feud. He also discovered a talent for winemaking, a hobby that combined his love for science and his taste for life's finer pleasures. His homemade wines were the highlight of gatherings with friends and family, and a testament to his ability to create joy and connection through his interests.

Those who knew Paul will remember him as a man of great friendliness, keen analytical thinking, and a knack for fixing anything that came his way. His presence was a comfort, his laughter was infectious, and his advice was sought after by many. Paul's legacy is one of love, commitment, and a life well-lived, and his journey was marked by a dedication to his family, his country, and his many passions.

As we say goodbye to Paul James Spenner, we celebrate a life that truly embodied the values of dedication, family, and joy. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, but his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us every day.

Receiving of family and friends will be held at Brown & Sons Funeral Home, 604 43" Street West, Bradenton, FL, on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm, with a memorial service commencing at 1:00 pm.
