Paul E. Thompson, age 87, of Buchanan, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on November 11, 2025. He was born on December 25, 1937, in Buchanan, Michigan, to the late Arthur A. Thompson and Mary M. (Brooks) Daniels.
A proud 1956 graduate of Buchanan High School, Paul excelled as captain of the football team and held the school's shotput record. On January 8, 1959, he married the love of his life, Sharon Krueger. They shared 67 beautiful years together.
Paul was a lifelong entrepreneur and community figure in Buchanan and Galien. He began working at Thompson Super Market, a family-owned business, at a young age and eventually took over operations, running the store for more than 30 years. He also owned and operated The Bungalow in Galien, a beloved local spot known to many near and far.
He was an avid football fan, always cheering on the Buchanan Bucks and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Paul had a special place in his heart for the young men on the Buchanan football team, often treating them to Notre Dame games and mentoring them with generosity and pride. He loved westerns with his favorite being, Gunsmoke, traveling-especially to Lake Tahoe-and cherished family vacations that created lasting memories for generations.
Paul is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughter, Sherrie Doyle; son, Art (Lora Vanholten) Thompson; grandchildren, Ashley, Abby, and Austin Doyle, Isaac Schrumpf, Sylvia and Spencer (Lauren) Thompson, and Eric Thompson Jr.; and great-grandchildren, Brycen and Lily. He is proceeded in death by his son, Eric Thompson.
In keeping with the family's wishes, cremation will take place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Please visit the Palmer Funeral Home – Hoven Chapel website for updates.
