Paul Thonis Obituary

Paul celebrated his 95th birthday on July 12th of this year.
He served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years, retiring in 1965. He then went on to help open and manage three different McDonald's restaurants in the northeast, before working for many years for NEBS in Townsend, MA as a shipping supervisor.
Paul enjoyed reading westerns and military type books, bowling, and making and painting decorations and birdhouses from wood. He also enjoyed cutting and selling cordwood with his former neighbor, Don Cowan, many years ago. He was a Boy Scout leader for several years in Townsend.
He was pre deceased by his wife of 45 years, Yvonne, in 2002, his son, John in 2005, and his daughter, Mary Thonis Duncan and her husband Dan, both in 2011, his daughter in law Margaret Thonis (Tom's former wife), as well as his parents, Michael and Mary, brothers James, George and Anthony, and sisters Helen and Anna. He is survived by his daughter, Cathy Thonis Emmons and her husband George of South Berwick, ME, his son,Tom Thonis and his wife Brenda of Rindge, NH, his 11 granddaughters, Abbie Sinclair, Sarah Gale, Jessica Barger and Lexi Thonis, (Tom's children); Brettan Middleton, Brandyn Sharos, Brielle Auguste, Sophia Thonis, (John's children) and Shannon Emmons and Hannah Emmons (Cathy's children), several great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and his long-time partner, Esther Forget of Fitchburg.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Monday, January 9, 2023 at St. John's Church, 1 School Street, Townsend. Interment with military honors will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Paul's family will receive relatives and friends at a visitation period 9:30 AM -10:30 AM Monday January 9, 2023 at the Anderson Funeral Home, 250 Man Street, Townsend Center.
