Paul Kevin Valentine - To know Kevin was to love him, and to put his life into a few simple words is almost impossible. Kevin was born July 21, 1963 to Kenneth Lee and Glenna Smith Valentine. Kevin grew up with his older brother Greg and attended Pendleton County Schools, graduating in 1981. He attended Eastern Kentucky University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree. Out of college he became a contractor for the government and then later moved on to become a tax examiner. He trained at FLETC where he would use this training as a Special Agent. Kevin worked for the United States Treasury Department Tax Crimes Division for 30 years before retiring in 2018. He spent 23 of those years as a Special Agent conducting criminal fraud investigations.
Kevin's greatest pleasures in life revolved around music, family, and friendship. Kevin's love of music began with him playing the trumpet in the high school band. The first band he joined was called Visions. He then joined with his friends, cousin, and brother to play in the band Freedom. After Freedom he continued to play with his friends and brother in St. Valentine. These bands played all over Northern Kentucky and the Greater Cincinnati area. Kevin took a break from playing while he focused on his career. After retiring in 2018 he picked right back up with several friends, playing in Little Freedom. His latest endeavor was with his neighbor and friend, singing in an acoustic duo Simply Neighbors, playing until his hands could no longer work the strings.
Kevin was an avid traveler and loved visiting Ft. Lauderdale and Hilton Head, two of his favorite places. Kevin loved to have his feet in the sand and a drink in his hand. When he couldn't travel far and wide, Kevin had a home away from home at Cave Run and then Locust Creek.
Kevin's proudest boasting came when he talked about his family. He was the epitome of the "Dad he didn't have to be" to all of them: Amanda Watts (Logan), Adam Watts (Sharon), Laura Kaufman Lester (Jake), Natalie Kaufman (Paul), and Shawn (Nicole) Taylor. Grandpa Kevin was always a favorite of Jayden, Rhylee, Alyse, AJ, Ripley, Oakley, and Autumn. Kevin is survived by his brother, Greg (Sharon) Valentine. Kevin spent the last fourteen years being inseparable from Gwen Shields, his fiance. If you saw one of them you usually saw the other. They have enjoyed family, adventures, travel, and love together. Kevin left behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nephews.
Kevin is preceded in death by his parents and the family dog, Oliver. There will be a visitation and celebration of life on Friday, October 18th at Main Street Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 11-2 with a Celebration of Life service at 2:00. The family requests that if you have a memory to share that you write it down and place it in the memory box at the church. Kevin's final resting place will be with his parents at the Peach Grove Cemetery (in a future private ceremony). Kevin was a supporter of St. Jude's and The Barracks Project if you would like to make a donation in his memory.
