Paul D. Young, a beloved life partner, brother, and cherished member of the Keyport community, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025, at Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel. Born on January 28, 1957, at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, Paul's journey through life was marked by his kind spirit, love for family, and a passion for the simple joys life had to offer.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Lillian Young, his sister, Phyllis Young. He grew up surrounded by the love of his family and the companionship of his treasured cats, Red, Trouble, and Runt. His memory will be lovingly cherished by his life partner, Debra Zarkivach, with whom he shared countless treasured moments. Paul is also survived by his brother, Robert Young; his two sisters, Gail Young and Emma Hettrick; and Debra's son, John Zarkivach. A doting uncle, Paul leaves behind two nieces and a nephew, Laura Boehler-McGee, Karl Boehler, and Melissa Vargas and extended family members who will miss his presence at family gatherings and his warm, engaging stories.
A lifelong resident of Keyport, Paul dedicated many years of service to the Matawan Aberdeen School District as a maintenance engineer. His commitment to his work and the well-being of the schools earned him the respect and friendship of his colleagues. Paul's involvement in his community and the associations he was a part of reflected his belief in the value of service and the importance of contributing to the place he called home.
Outside of his professional life, Paul had a variety of interests that filled his days with joy and contentment. He was a familiar face at local flea markets, where he enjoyed searching for hidden treasures and antiques. His love for games was evident in his regular attendance at bingo and his fondness for the excitement of Atlantic City's vibrant atmosphere. Paul also relished the serene beauty of boardwalks, where he could often be found taking in the sights and sounds of the shore.
An outdoorsman at heart, Paul loved to spend his time fishing and hunting, embracing the tranquility of nature. His weekend road trips to Pennsylvania were adventures he looked forward to, exploring new places and creating memories. Yet, it was his love for his cats, Cricket and Whittie, that truly epitomized his caring nature. Paul's commitment to taking care of his feline companions spoke volumes about his gentle and nurturing soul.
Paul's love for dining out was matched by his appreciation for good company. His laughter and stories added an extra flavor to every meal, making each dining experience memorable for his family and friends. His presence brought warmth and happiness to those around him, and these moments will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
As we bid farewell to Paul D. Young, we reflect on a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and the happiness of simple pleasures. His legacy is one of kindness, dedication to family, and the joy of life's everyday adventures. Paul's journey through life may have come to an end, but the memories he created and the love he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respect on Thursday, May 8, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Jacqueline M. Ryan Home for Funerals INC 233 Carr Ave, Keansburg. A religious service will be held at 5:30 PM at the funeral home and the cremation will be private
