Mrs. Paula Elizabeth Akins, age 82, of Lake City, Florida passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 from injuries received in an automobile accident. Mrs. Akins was born in Fernandina Beach, Florida and resided in Lake City for over 60 years. While living in Lake City, she worked as a registered nurse with the Lake Shore Hospital where she taught Lamaze classes. She was then employed with the V.A. Medical Center in Lake City for many years until the time of her retirement. She loved gardening, mowing her yard, was a great cook and was dedicated to her family. Mrs. Akins was a member of the Glen Springs Church of Christ in Gainesville. She was preceded in death by her husband Bascom Ray Akins and her parents, Hal P. and Hattie M. Dukes Gillen. She is survived by her sons: Hal P. (Tami) Akins of Punta Gorda, Florida and Jonathan (Laurie) Akins of Lake City; sister-in-law: Gwen (Lloyd) Barker of Penson, Alabama; brother-in-law: Joe (Betty) Akins of Gainesville; grandchildren: Laurie Elizabeth Akins, Lindsey Rae Akins, Jordan Forest Akins, Austin Jackson Akins, Abigail Madison Akins, Brittney Douglass and Savannah (James) Taylor; great grandchildren: Willow Akins and Ember Akins. A graveside funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Akins will be held 1:00pm, Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at Memorial Cemetery, Lake City, Florida with Elder Mark W. Moseley and Reverend Lloyd Barker officiating. Visitation and gathering with the family will be Tuesday, November 11, 2025 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the funeral home.
