GATE CITY – Pearl Marie (Skeens) Herron, 83, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 6, 2025.
Pearl was born on January 29, 1942, in Gate City, VA to her parents, the late James Harvey Lawson, Sr. and Gracie Victoria (Solomon) Lawson. Mom loved going fishing in her old black truck, she called it her fishin truck. She loved going on vacations, riding around on the back roads, and especially loved her pets, Ruru, Sadie, Max, Hoochie, Precious, Petey, sassy and Smoky.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Skeens; infant son, Baby Boy Skeens, on July 9, 1960; brothers, Clyde Thomas Lawson and Fred Napolian Lawson.
Pearl is survived by her son, James Wesley Skeens (Jackie); daughters, Melissa Skeens, and Meshell Darlene Fletcher (Mike); grandchildren, Jessica Darlene Fletcher, Mikey Ray Fletcher II, and Hunter James Reed; sisters, Nora Stanley, Ruth Christian (John), Mary Christian (George) and Dorothy McGinnis (Jack); brothers, Bob Lawson, Jim Lawson (Choe), and Don Lawson (Linda); as well as many dear nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel. The graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Morning Star Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 AM to go in procession to the cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Duncan, Pete Hartman, Wayne Skeens, Kenneth Skeens, Chris Darnell, Jake Bellamy, Mike Fletcher, and Mikey Fletcher II.
