Obituary for Mrs. Pearl Ionie Richardson
With deep sorrow yet grateful hearts, we celebrate the life of our beloved Mrs. Pearl Ionie Richardson, who passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 30, 2025, at the age of 95. After a long and courageous battle with illness, she succumbed to throat cancer in the final year of her life. Through it all, her faith remained unshaken, her heart full of love, and her spirit strong.
Pearl Ionie Richardson was born on January 18, 1930, in Kellits, Clarendon, Jamaica, West Indies, to the late Leopold Bonnick and Gloria Ashmead. After her mother later married Mr. Rufus Parsons, she became the loving older sister to nine younger siblings. As the eldest of nine siblings, Pearl was caring, mindful and responsible as she helped her mother care for her siblings. She also maintained a strong and loving bond with Leopold's other children (siblings), including Lyndon Bonnick and Winsworth Bonnick. She grew up in a close-knit, faith-filled home where she learned the values of compassion, hard work, and perseverance that would guide her throughout her life.
On June 4, 1954, Pearl married Mr. Hubert George Richardson of Kingston, Jamaica. Their loving union of 73 years was blessed with five children: Orville, Leighton, Althea, Carl, and Kevin. In 1964, she immigrated to the United States to join her husband, later settling in Mount Vernon, New York, where they raised their family in faith and love.
A devoted Roman Catholic, Pearl's faith guided every part of her life. She served her church faithfully, volunteering wherever she was needed and finding strength in prayer. She even traveled to Vatican City and other religious places to deepen her spiritual journey.
Professionally, Pearl earned certification as both a Dental Technician and Nurse's Aide, serving over 30 years with compassion and dedication. She cared for others with the same love and patience she extended to her family.
Pearl was the heart of her home-kind, generous, and wise. She made family gatherings joyful, memorable and always helped those in need, often sending financial support to loved ones in Jamaica. Her wisdom, faith, and nurturing spirit touched all who knew her.
Pearl leaves to cherish her memories; her devoted husband Hubert; sons and daughter Orville, Leighton, Althea, and Kevin; her sisters Wynklett and Mary Parsons; brothers Eric, Theophilus (Strength), Altamont, and Lloyd Parsons; grandchildren Rukiya, Briana and Richard Jr; great- granddaughters Channing and Jerri Caldwell; in-laws Janine, Monica, Richard, Gerry, and Agnes FreeSpirit; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, and her church family. She was predeceased by her beloved son Carl Richardson; her parents; and siblings Royston, George and Alfred Parsons, Lyndon and Winsworth Bonnick; and her granddaughter Keisha.
Pearl will be remembered for her deep faith, warm heart, and generous spirit. She welcomed everyone with kindness, spoke words of wisdom, and lived her life with grace and humility. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a caring friend, and a faithful servant of God. Her legacy of love, faith, and strength will live on in all who were blessed to know her. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
