Peder Scott Wonson passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 6, 2025, in Gloucester, MA.
Peder was born in Gloucester on December 25, 1978, to the late Mary Lou Wonson.
Peder graduated from Gloucester High School class of '97 and attended Franklin Pierce University.
He was raised in East Gloucester, surrounded by family and a close-knit group of friends. Peder was a huge New England sports fan and was involved in sports throughout his life.
As a child, he played Little League Baseball, PeeWee Football, youth soccer, and was his High School's Varsity Tennis Captain. However, he found his passion learning to golf at Bass Rocks Golf Course. He co-captained the GHS Golf team and was an NEC all-star. He became a lifelong avid golfer, claiming titles in tournaments, and was always one of the best and funniest teammates on a solid foursome.
Peder was a state-ranked dart player and long-standing teammate at Pratty's. Their dart league team dominated, winning several state championships, and traveling to compete throughout the nation.
He was deeply involved in our community's sports scene. He played in the Magnolia Men's Softball League, managed the Pratty's Women's softball team, assisted with Gloucester Little League, and even refereed local flag football games. Peder believed that if you can help out-just show up, and he always did.
Peder sure knew how to play a hand of cribbage. In the Pratty's League he was the G.O.A.T. winning the Silver Board 11 out of 13 years and the Gold Board in 6 seasons.
He was part of a true "band of brothers," a group of amazing men that grew up together, looked out for each other, and lived life to the fullest. They take summer camping trips together creating memories while river tubing and having many laughs around the campfire.
Peder was a dedicated employee working for Unis Plumbing, learning the plumbing trade, later moving on to work for McGrath Plumbing. Both companies treated him like family.
Peder was a unique soul; he touched so many lives with his humor, his knowledge, ubiquitous involvement, and humble ways. He will be dearly missed.
Peder is survived by his aunts: Anne Curry and her husband, John, of Beverly; Erin Celata and her husband, Phillip, of Fairport, NY; aunts Suzanne Nicholson and Betsy Turco and her husband, Dan; his uncles: Scott Wonson and his wife, Jodi, of Gloucester; Laurence Gould of Springfield; and great-aunt Margaret Kennefick of Gloucester. Peder was predeceased by his mother, Mary Lou Wonson; his cousins Aaron Wonson and Lauren Gould; uncles Todd, Russell, and Guy Wonson; and grandparents Mary and Russell Wonson.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to The Gloucester Education Foundation at https://thinkthebest.org/donate. This important and impactful Foundation strengthens and supports the Gloucester School District and its youth.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 30, at 2:00 p.m. at Pratty's, 10 Parker Street, Gloucester, MA. All friends and family are cordially invited to attend.
