Peggy Ann Beckham

Peggy Mooney Beckham of Germantown, Tennessee, passed away on May 11, 2025. While Peggy had lived in Germantown for the last several years, she was a lifelong resident of Clarksdale, Mississippi.
Peggy was born on January 21, 1939, to A.W. and Inez Mooney and was the oldest of three children. She was an exceptional student, and she pursued her passion of music from a young age. She began singing in middle school and attended Delta State College on a vocal scholarship. She had a beautiful soprano voice and continued to sing for decades, primarily at Clarksdale's First Presbyterian Church.
After attending Delta State, Peggy returned to Clarksdale and took a job in the office of a local builder. While at this job, she met a young engineer named Lee Beckham and they began a courtship that led not only to marriage but to the formation of their business. Beckham Construction Company was a successful and respected business in the Mississippi Delta for over 40 years, and a beautiful example of marital partnership.
Though Peggy was an equal partner in the business, she also remained active in the community. She was a board member of the Presbyterian Day School, active in the Lee Academy PTA, and an active member of the Community Concert series, the Clarksdale Garden Club, and other civic organizations.
Peggy was pre-deceased by her parents A.W. and Inez Cox Mooney, as well as her husband Howard Lee Beckham, Sr. She is survived by her three sons and their spouses - Hal Beckham (Lori) of Germantown, TN; John Beckham (Melanie) of Germantown, TN; and Alan Beckham (Shelly), of Memphis, TN; as well as her beloved grandchildren Bethany, Amelia, Jack, Kathleen and Sarah Beth. She is also survived by her siblings Arlene Hensley of Clarksdale, MS, and A.W. Mooney, Jr. of Philadelphia, MS, along with countless extended family members.
A Celebration of Life memorial will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Clarksdale, MS, on Saturday, May 31, 2025. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:30AM, followed by the service at 11:30AM. The family requests that any memorials be given to the Presbyterian Day School. Meredith Nowell Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
